stopping to inquire into the condition
of his victims. The injured
parties wore taken home as

painfully injured, will recover.
Whether the negro's home became
unmanageable or not i* not
known, but if such was true he
gave no word of warning to the
unsuspecting parties ahead ofhnn,
and to all appearances it was a
diabolical outrage,emanating from
the brain of a liend who regarded
not the laws of man or God.

burning made a tour-mile march
to the top of the mountain. The
spectacle was viewed by thousands
in the valley. The parade, head

tain top, when a thousand striking

A Snake in a Hat-Trap.

the institution of Mayor Morgan,
several arrests of negroes have
been made in connection with the
recent riot hare. Fourteen of the

jail, on various charges, among

rice, i-ano and hay crops are unusually
poor, in many places failures,
except that a few localities
report an abundance of grass for
hay.
Karlv rice harvest is finished,
and June rice it ripening. The
rice crop is the only tine ono cultivated
this year. Birds are destructive
in the Georgetown dis- |
tricts. Turnips are coming up
poorly, and in muny places no
stands have heen secured. Stock
water is scarce in places. The
