Message From Our Minister.
Mr Conger Sends an Answer to
tho State Department.
Washington, July 20.?The
Chinese minister 1ms received a
cipher cable dispatch from United
States Minister Conger.
It is in the State Department'
cipher and was transmitted j
through the Tsung Li Yanicn and
the Shanghai taotai. It contains I
about fifty words and is signed in
English with the name "Conger.'*

Wo handed Conger's dispatch to
Secretary Hay, who immediately
called in his assistant secretaries
and his private secretary and
work was begun in translating the
cipher.
Mo doubt is expressed bv the
State Department oflicials as to,
the authenticity of the message. i
The translation of it is as follows:

Wednesday night at Carlisle,
Giles Sims, u young negro from
Spartanburg, took the daughter of
Jeff Tucker out for a walk. They
went to a church and were in the
midst of a marriage ceremony
when Tucker entered and shot
Sims, who returned the tire.
Both died shortly after. The
girl was also wounded.

Greenville county is aspiring to
become the banner wheat county
of the State. The Greenville
News says from reports which are
coining in from those who are
contesting for tho wheat prizes
the indications are that Green-,
ville county is destined to he the

on two acres. A pood farmer

The total number of casualties
on the railroads of the United
States lust year is stated to have
been 51,743, of which 7,132 wort
deaths. Those casualties are h^
