oral assertions based upon the
vague reports of liquor dealers

Protests Against Tillman's Charge

here today Bishop Duncan in his
sermon took up Senator Tillman's
declaration that there is an "unholy
alliance of preachers and
liquor men led by Hoyt." Bishop
lmncan said that lie wished to
enter his protest against the
charge and that it ought to he
resented.
In an int* rview with a Greenville
News reporter this afternoon
Bishop Duncan used still stronger
term.*. lie denounced the senator's
assertion as untrue and said
there was no gr ttnd for the ]

resolutions:

and pauperism, that it destroys
property, blights the home, corrupts
character,and makes against
the conditions of sound citizenship,

one of the fugitives taking food

The negroes made a desperate

Sheriff' Kvans of Marion took

McLendon tried to keep the arrest

Marion on a special train but the

When the citizens arrived at

in a car thoroughly guarded.
