The road from Cureton's ferry
to the top of the hill on this side
is reported to be impassable. There
is said to be some bad places on
the River road also. The over
seers will confer a favor on the
travelling public by looking after
bad places in the roads.
The annual alliance meeting at
Tirjsah, York county, will be held
this year on August 2 and 3. Secy,
of Agriculture Wilson will be
present and will talk on agricultural
topics and tliis in itself will
draw a largo crowd. President
llartzog, of Clenison, will also
make an address.

on the up freight yesterday
morning and visited the small pox
patients near Kershaw who are
being attended by Br. W C Twitty.
He pronounced the disease
small pox and approved the treatment
being used as well as the
precautions that are being taken I
to guard against a spread. He
left on the down freight yesterday

Kershaw will not be without a
school. The special lew failed
to carry but its citizens deeply interested
in education have deter
mined to establish a good school

from the magistrate.
John Sadler, col, for beating
bis wife, was sent to the chain
gang Thuisday for 30 days by
M agistrate Caskey.

Caston Died From Hoi ton's Shot.

Camden, .July 18 ? A telegram
was received here today stating
that Burwell Caston had died in
Charleston. Caston ivus shot in
the leg in this county some months
ago hy Luther Horton. At the
last term of court Horton was
tried for assault and hattory with
intent to kill. He was convicted
of assault and hattery of a high
and aggravated nature, and sentenced
to imprisonment or pay a
tine of $25. He paid the tine.
Caston having died within less
than a year from the time the injury
was intlicted Horton will he
held for murder.
