Anderson, July 19: ?"fine"* ftf the boldest as well us one of the most heathenish crimes that hus ever been chronicled in Anderson's history, cauie to light lust Sunday morning. It was at Bethany church about 12 miles below this city. While the people wore congregating for worship several men in strolling through the cemetery remarked frenh earth about one of the graves. a ? nuspicion was aroused. ltie grave was identified as that o* Miss Polly Ann Callahan who died August 20, 1899. Her brothers, Isaac and .James F Callar> han, wero informed of the discovery and then immediately began a close investigation. They fonnd that the box had been riimed onen II I with picks or other heavy in st rumen ts, the cotlin torn into and the glass of the lid crushed. One of tho earrings of the deceased was missing hut it is unreason* aide to suppose that this was done by the fiends, 'l'he pillow and clothing had been considerably disturl>ed and this substantiates the belief that tho motive of tho deed was tho 1io|hj of finding treasure buried with tho corpse. This theory is founded upon the rumor among tho negroes and tho ignorant class of white jieople that Miss Callahan had remarked on ono occasion that she purposed to have her money buried with her uDder her pillow. The authorities are working to ascertain tho guilty parties. THAT Tli KOHISI N' CI HKAD4CI1K Would quickly leave you, il you used Dr. King's New Life Tills. There i.s no profit in sheep raising in York county?at least, not at present. Any man who trios it invites his financial ruin, rhis is tho lesson that has been taught by tho intelligent experiment of Mr B D Springs, in Fort Mill township. A few months igo Mr Springs hud nearly '200 sheep. Now he has less than a hundred. It is all on account of the dogs. They came from the country around for a distance of ten or twelve miles, sometimes killing as many as a half dozen sheep in a day and carrying ofl lambs until it was impossible to keep track of the number that has been lost. 'Inn ?.?> (l.n m ><w vv/ii ? tw UO Ull HIC jllUtC have killed forty^seven dogs with their rifles during the past few months; but this slaughter seems to have been in vain. The supply of dogs has as yet shown no sign? (*f diminution, and notwithstanding the utmost vigilance of tiif guards, there are still dogs which can kill sheep. Mr Springs hat about decided to give it up. lib tlock of sheep is for sale, lit will continue to raise a few breed ors; hut so far as keeping up the tigtit with all the dogs of the country is concerned, ho begs tc be excused.?Yorkvillc Fmpiiror.
