Unanimous.
Only One Vote Against Littlefield's
Anti-Trust Bill.
Washington, June 2?Only one
vote was cast in the house today
against the Littletield anti-trust
bill to amend the Sherman act of
1890 to mi .e it more effective in
the prosecution of trusts and combinations,
their agents officers 'or
attorneys. Mr. Mann of Illinois
ca?t the negative vote. The bil ,
according to the statements of the
Republican leaders, goes to the
limit of authority of conggess im>
der tho constitution. All the
Democratic minority amendments
except one were defeated. That
was un amendment declaring that
nothing in the act should be construed
to apply to trades unions
or labor organizations, which was
adopted by a vote of 260 to 8.
Tho hill amends the Shermun
anti-trust law s.) as to declare
evory contract, combination, in
the form of trustor oonsnirwov in
restraint of commerce among the
State or with foreign nations
illegal and.evory party to such
contract or combination guilty of
a crime punishable hy a tine of
not less than $500 nor more than
$5,000, and by imprisonment not
less than six months nor more
than two years. It provides that
any person injured by a violation
of th< provisions of the law may
recover threefold damages. The

The vote on tinal passage was
273 to 1, and the announcement
of it was cheered to the echo.

Seven Acquittals Last Week and

der in the criminal court this

Luther Bell was acquitted Tuesday

Four murder cases remain on

Boxers Lying Low in Town But
are Working Afield.
l'ekin, June 2.? American and
j other foreign guards numbering
349 arrived here in the midst of
the Dragon festival. The streets
were unusually crowded and,
though the people were greatly
interested in the annual spectacle,
no manifestation of hostility was
made. The presence of the
guards has had a marked effect
upon the hearing of the Chinese
towards foreigners.
The "boxers'' are evidently
moving afield. Unfortunately no
leaders of the "boxers" have
been arrested, though their cap..
