were t!io worst experienced since i
the strike on the lines of the St i
Louis transit company were in* '
augnrated over thr*e weeks ago. i
Tho rioting was confined entirely
to three places in tho southern
section of the city and by night*
fall the police records showed
that fullv a dozen persons had
either received Indict wounds or
heen hurt by flying missiles.
Three of those hit by bullets re*
ceived what are presumably mortal
wounds, and that no one was
killed outright seems miraculous
considering tho-groat number of
shots exchanged by the employees
of the company the strike sympathizers
ami the strikers thonisclves.
The worst of tho riotous disturbances
occuned near the intersection
of California avenue
and Keokuk street. In this af
fray a non-union motorman and 1
another employe on the car of tho
Transit company were probably
fatally.shot. The battle was tierce
and probably '200 allots were
lired. Obstructions had been <
piled high on the tracks, which
