It was a sore disappointment
that the excursion train to the

| was bo far behind time. Many
rave out going altogether but
about 75 hoarded the train and
went anyway though the lecture

inimitable Sam talk for about 20

hearty laughs which somewhat
ahayed their rutiled spirits. In

Railroad Assessments >lade.
At the annual meeting of the
State board of equalization of
railroad property held Tuesday
incroses in the valuation per mile
were made on the following roads
operating in this county: Lancaster
& Chester raided from $1,750
to $2,000 per mile; 8 C & G Lxtension
raised from $5,000 to
$0,000 per mile. Several other
roads in the St dc were likewise
raised but taking the increases
and reductions as a whole, there
will hardly he a change in the
amount of the assessments as a
total.
Town I inproveiiieiits
The town council fit its meeting
last Wednesday night decided to
put flown cement sidewalks on the
business portion of Main street
where the property holder "ill
agree to bear half the expense. (
Some of the progressive property 1
owners on Main street have al
ready, at their own expense, .had
cement sidewalks made in front
of their buildings, and surely no
citizen will refuse to make such
improvement where the town of~
fers to see them half.
It was also decided to open up J
Main street to the limits of the |
town on the North side They I
will begin work on this at once.
