Hot Springs, May 11.?The first session of the forty fifth annual convention of tho Southern Baptist church convened today in the dining room of tho Eastman hotel. Ex Gov William J Northen, of Georgia, called tho meeting to order and made a short address. The alton ling Baptists, both delegates and members, are in ox cess of all estimates. Dr Landing Burrows, ol Augusta (ia, and Dr O E Gregory were unanimously re-elected secretaries of the convention. George W Nortben, of Louisville, was the choice for treasurer. Ibis morning's session win opened by an address of welcome j by Mr G Thompson, of Arkansas, who was responded to by Ml Byers, of Kentucky. Mrs C A Baker, of Washington, delivered and address and I was followed by Secretary .J W ! Armstrong. The members of the Woman's missionary union and visiting Baptist ladies were ten dered a reception this afternoon at Bullmnn hotel by the Ludie* Aid societies of the local Baptist churches. Hot Springs, Ark, May 13. ? Today's trains brought in 3,00G visitors to the Southern Baptist convention and the city was crowded. Altogether there arc about <5,000 visitors in attendance. Even though ill, she had refused to leave her post until finally she was induced to come home in search of health and rest. Then the venerable Dr Ilajcher stepped forward and recalled that many years ago he was in a re vival in a country church in Virginia when a young Marylander was converted.
