Taxahaw school, Prof A C
Howell, principal, will close Friday
night, 18th inst., with public
exercises consisting of declamations,

aouncement of the death of Mrs
Nannie C Massey, wife of our
townsman, Mr.Ins II Massey, ?lr, ^
which occurred at 4:30 a m. Mrs |
Massey had been in wretched
health for several years, and the
past few weeks she had been
vradnallv growing weaker from a
complication of ailments. She
was the only daughter of the lute
Uupt Jns L Reed, by his second
wifo, And was about 30 years of
ige. From childhood, kindness
:>f heart, gentlenoss of spirit, do
votion to the Master's work have
been her distinguishing characteristics
These noble traits made
her universally loved and esteemed
in life, and her untimely demise
sorely lamented. She joined
['amp Creek Methodist church in
childhood and a raoro consistent
christian life is seldom to be found
than the deceased I i vet I She was
married in Feby 1800, to Hon
Jns R Massey. Only one child
was born to them, a little daugh
ter, but it only lived to gladden
their hearts for seven short
months.
Mrs Massey leaves surviving
her, her husband, her mother,
M rs M lj Reed, three brothers, I
Jno L., Jas F., and VV II Reed,
and a half sister, Mrs Win Civburn
of Camden. They have the
deepest sympathy of their friends
hero and throughout the county.
The interment of tho remains
took place at Camp Creek church
Monday at 5 o'clock p m, after
services conducted by Kev A N |

sorrowing friends were in attendance.

Yesterday, about 2 o'clock, the
residence, servant's house and
well house of Mr II (i Mel I wain
at this place were totally consumed
by fire. The fire was of accident
al origin and originated from a
O c
defective stove flue. When discovered
a small flame was issuing
from tho roof of the cook room
by the side of the stove flue. The
alarm was given and heroic work
whs done hut to no avail so far as
saving the residence was concerned.
Some of the furniture was
saved but was badly damaged. Mr
Mcl I wain's loss is about $2,000
or $2,500, with $1,000 insurance
on the building, but no insurance
on furniture. For a while Mr
Lazenby's residence was in imminent
danger but the colored hook
and ladder company stuck manfully
to their post and it was
saved.
