The scheme of Mi ,1 R Barron
to erect a cotton null at Kershaw
will not tnateiiaiize, us far as Mr
Barron is concerned, at least that
is i'.io pro-pact at present. The
rea-on seems to lie in the fact that
some of the Kershaw subscriber*
and Mr Barron did not fully understand
each other. The-ito hu.t
bt en selected, nearly all the stock
had been subscribed, a commission
had been issued by the Secretary
of State, th capitol stock being
$ 1 ((no, ;i majority of which
Mr Barron understood was to be
taken l>y himself and friends and
that he was to manage the mill;
but on Saturday it developed that
i 111* Kurshaw stockholders had decided
to reduce the capital stock to
$100,000, a majority of the shares
to tie controlled by themselves*
Mr Barren, however, to manage
the mill.
lTpon heing informed of this
fact, Mr Barron went to Kershaw
Monday and at a meeting of the
stockholders protested that it was
understood that ho was to. control
the majority o' the stock and that
unless he could do so he did not
care to put his money in tha enterprise.
Finding that his argument
was of no avail, Mr Barron
wit ldrew his subscription and
came home. Mr Barron, how
ever, personally holds the option
on the site on which it was tiro
a
posed to erect the mill, and if the
mill should he erected at Kershaw
or at any other point near there,
it will tie known as Manchester
Mill, No 2. lie tells us he has
received seveiul propositions from
other towns to locate mills with
thorn on the same terms us offer*
ed hy Kershaw.
We hope the outcome of this
matter may he tho erection of the
proposed new mill at Rock Hill,
and we call upon our people to
take this subject up at once with
Mr Barron. We cannot afford to
allow him to ?o elsewhere to find
a location when his own town
needs his help. He is known
here as a successful, up Uwlate
null man, and wo must not allow
this mill to <ro to Kershaw or any
other point. Now for another
pull, a atrong pull, and a pull all
together.

Susan rhirkold, aged ti.'l, committed
suicide thin morning ten
miles below the city. She was in
good health, but hud previously
