A Painful Accident
Master Clarence Caskcy, sun of
Mr Wylio Q Caskey of Newcut,
aged about 12 years, met with a
I painful accident, ami one that came

several unsuccessful attempts to
discharge a gun, he decided to put

that his face was badly powder

hia wife in Charlotte, N C,
last Tuesday night. Ho escaped
from the city that night by on
tering an empty imx car of a
freight train which was leaving
the city for Augusta. At Chester
he got out, made his way to Catawba
Junction where ho hoarded

day. While here he wrote a letter
to a negro woman in Charlotte,
telling her to forward his trunk
to Kershaw, S C. 1'ho police,
who were on the alert, were ex
pecting him to write t > the negro
woman and as soon as she got a
letter they went to her house.
She at tirst denied getting a letter,
then said she had burned it. and
finally, when locked up in the
torn ha, got very communicative
and told all its contents. The
chief of police, Mr. Orr, had her
to write a letter to Fesperman ut
Kershaw, and lie shaved his mils
tache and took the next train.
There he learned from Policeman
Catoe that a negro answering
Fesperman'w description was tin
