lone e\p: cssions on some of our
farmers' faces have given way to
smiles as l>road as those on the
face ol the man in the full moon.
Housekeepers have been com
plaining of the scarcity of vegetables
and fruits. The tine rains
n.a\ malic late vegetables more
plentiful and allay their comp'aints
in part and good turnip
patches and pork complete the
song.

])r .1 Douglas Nisliet returned
to New York last Monday.
Miss Sadie McCardel of Lancaster
who has been visiting the
Nisbets returned to Lancaster
last W ednesday.
Miss Sugar Tillman and Mrs
Sue Dates made a quick trip to
Lancaster Wednesday. They left
at 10 o'clock a. m. and returned
at 2.30 pm. The present schedule
gives our people n chance to visit
Lancaster and spend a few hours
there for business or pleasure and
not consume much time.
J M Voder ha* been contiued i
I
to his room several days, nursinir
and meditating over a severe at
tack of rheumatism.
The trustees of Van Wyck
school employed Rev R E Mood
for teacher. He began teaching
Monday, hut lias discontinued for
the present. We have an advanced
educator on the board of
trustees who has not himself had
the linest opportunities for an
education and thinks the plan and
theories of schools should be
changed. He has drafted a set of
rules and regulations to govern
the teachers, pupils and patrons.
The Rev Mr Mood after reading
those and reflecting on them, was
nol willing to subscribe to them,
and imformed the trustees they
could employ another teacher.
These rules will tie copy-righted
before other schools can use them.

Meeting of the State Alliance.
The annual meeting of the State
Alliance was held in C olumb'n
?eunesday and Thursday. 25
delegates were present, with officers
and local members in attendance
the whole attendance was
15. Congressmen Stoked and
Taibeit were present. \lr ?l C

President Wilburn's address was
read Wednesday night. It dealt
with the business features of the
order, urging members to keep up
interest in the organization and
urging reduction of acreage as
cine way of improving the price
of cotton. The hulk of tie proceedings
appears to have been devoted
to a discussion of the State
Alliance exchange, with the result
that the exchange's business
will be continued on the basis as
heretofore, although Congressman
Stokes and Mr Keitt had
considerable to say on the other
side.
The annual election of officers
was held, resulting in the choice
of the following: President, ?J C
Alexander; vice president and j
lecturer, .1 B Blake; secretary j
and treasurer, .1 \Y Keid: nietn- j
l?er of tlio executive conunittco
