Me and the Cat.
Richard X is tin incorrigible j
youngster of 1<? who has shown a
tendonc to lay the blame of his
misdeeds on other shoulders. His
favorite scapegoat was the family
feline. A jar of sweets could not
be opened, or a hit of ginger-*
bread purloined, or a vase broken
to atoms, without a lame excuse
of Dick's, "I guess it was the I
cat," calling forth his mother's
reproaches:
"Richard, you must not lay tho ^
blame on the cat of all the wickedness
you are guilty of in this
house."
Not long after oue of these upbraiding*,
in Sunday school, his
teacher asked Richard the que#-1
tion, apropos of the devil's power
on earth.
44Who is responsible for the
wickedness of this world?"
It was with a mixture of a
contrite spirit and the old habit
that little Dick answered: '4 Well,

blame. But?1 think our cat has

An Old IdM.
Every day strengthens the belief of eminent
physicians that impure blood is the
cause of the nugority of onr diseases.
Twenty-five years ago this theory was used
a? a basis for the formula of Iirowns' Iron
Bitters. The maay remarkable mires sheeted
by this (Vinous old household remedy are
sufficient to prove that the theory is eorrsn*.

several visits to the State dispensary
and he refers to liquors shipped
to tho dispensaries as "concentrated
extract of rat juice." ?
In view of this it is pretty safe to
assume that Mr Ashley will coil tine
his drinking from the dispensary
to sample packages only. A
gentleman met him on the train
the other day, says tho Sumter
Freeman, and Mr Ashley told him
of his visit to the dispensary "in
order to observe the bottling process."
Something got the matter
with the machinery. The vats
/ "into
which the liquor is poured
and where it is diluted with water"
wore examined. Commissioner
Vance made a "haul" of
"dead rats and mice?about two
bushels in all, and the scum was
as green as ever you 'seed' on a
mud hole in Summer time."
This brand is for sale exclusively
at the "moral institutions" of
the State. None genuine unless
labeled 'chemically pure rat juice'

Things to Forget.
If you would increase your hap.
pines* and prolong your life, forget
your neighbor's faults. Forget
all the slanders you have ever
heard. Forget the temptations.
Forget the fault finding, and give
a little thought to the cause which
provoked it. Forget the peculiarities
of your friends, and only
remember the good points that
make you fond of them. Forget
all quarrels or histories you may
have heard by accident, and which
if repeated, would seem a thousand
times worse than they are.?
Blot out as far as possible all the

come hut they will on'y grow
