"Deliver us from Evil." Every
christian man daily utters
this prayer in secret t< his heavenly
father. There is nothing sel.
fish in the Lord's prayer. The
pronoun I does not appear in it. ^
It is a prayer for the whole
brotherhood of christians. "De- ^
liver us from evil"?evil things.
Whiskey is an evil?a monster
evil. Are you sincere in the ^
prayer you say when you vote ^
for its sale? The world has no ^
confidence in your profession. It
laughs at you behind your back, ^
however much it may commend,
you in your prosence. Verily,
you are a stumbling block.
Lancastes county is the ban- J
ner prohibition county. It is
the only county in the State which ^
gave Featherstone a majority over ^
all six of his competitors for
Governor. Many counties gave
him a nlnrnlitv nv?r motif nf hia
competitors but Lancaster was I
the only county to give him a J
clear majority over all. We feel I
proud of this. It speaks well for
Lancaster county and christian, ^
law-abiding people in other sec.
tions of the State will certainly
note this fact and say, well dona 1
Lancaster. The second primary J
comes off next Tuesday. We
hope Lancaster will then give the
prohibition candidate a majority
to be proud of indeed. ^
S C it G Takes Charge.
A Blacksburg special of Thursday
to the Columbia State says:
4'General Manager Sands, Gen- ]
eral Superintendent W S Jones
and Traffic Manager Emerson, of
the South Carolina and Georgia ,
railroad, are here this morning to
take formal possession of the offices
and shops of the Ohio River
and Charleston railroad. For the
present, at least, there will he no
changes made among the officers
and men who have been operating
1 the Ohio River nnd Charleston
road. The primary election at ov
this place parsed off very quietly an
and without a single disturbance."

:? For Old Lancaster.
We have entered the mercantile arena and now throw down the gannt'et of LOW PRICES at th
1 feet of our competitors and defy them to match us. We are of the fieople and for the people first, las
and all the time. UNDER SELL. UNDER BUY, will l>e our motto. The high priced concerns will b
stamped out of existence. We will wage a reledtless war against all hitrh prices. Our aim is to benefi
' sot *nrmer8 Lancaster and adjoining counties. They are the backl>one and sinew of the lund and whei
mey are oppressed the whole country suffers. They are our friends. We will look to their iniorest
,491 anrl act as a safety valve against the oppression of high prices.
When this Stock Company was about to l>e formed we had application upon application for te
,240 times the amount of its Stock from parties that we did not want. We of course were very much flat
,596 tered at the confidence shown in our honesty nnd business ability, but had to refuse to issue the stock t
^ them. The farmers are our friends and they are the ones to whom we will issue the stock. They ar
the ones we look to for support. "In unity there is strength."
357 On AUGUST 18th we will throw the immense Stock of Fitzpatrick & Bro., and H. J. Gregory ^
' Co., also the Gregory-Heath Banking and Mercantile (k>. at Kershaw, S. C., on the market at less tha
the original cost of the goods?this sale will continuo THIRTY DAYS from AUGUST 18th. Every
733 thing np to that time will lie sold for Spot Cash. Our motto will lie, for the people first, last and a
' OQ the time. We will pin our faith on the farmers of old Lancaster. We unfurl our banner to the breeze
