Sept., 1st, the style of the husinesa

Sheriff Clyburn has captured
Joe Hilton, colored, who was
found guilty, in his absence, at
the last term of court of an as- i
sault and battery with intent to
kill and against whom u sealed
sentence was left by the Court.?
Joe wil have to lie in jail until
the next session of the court when
the sentonce will l?e opened and
Joe will know his fate.
Charter Granted.
The Secretary of State has
granted an amended charter to the
Oregory-Heith Hanking and Mercantile
Company of Kershaw. ?
First, to change the name of the
corporation to Farmers' Hanking
and Mercantile company. Second,
to change the principal place of
business to Lancaster. Third, to
provide for an additional olliccr,
known as cashier. Fourth, to in- |
crease capital to $60,000.
Tho stockholders will meet at
10 a m today and organize under
the amended charter.
The County Canvass.
The county campaign closes at
this place today. The candidates

all the speakings this week. They
have gotten along quite harmoniously
and all in all, the general
opinion is that they surpass in
looks, intelligence and coinpe
tency any set of candidates that
have over canvussed the county.
No mutter who is elected to 611

the county will bo in safe and
competent hands. This being the
case, a candidate's personal popularity
ia likely to l>e bis winning
card. Next- Tuesday will settle
the matter, for some; but others
will have to make a accond race.

Mr Editor:?It has been our
pleasure to hear the state, county ^
and congressional candidates speak
and seldom have we had so much hi

our choice. We doubt if any c<
district in the Union can give

grcssman but as the place is largo
enough for only one, we should l*

a goodly number from York and
North Carolina.
The picnic was a success and ^
