from the standpoint of the judges
elect, it is a farce ; from the standi
point of the people, a tragedy. Far
be it from us to contend for any man's
right to hold his oft' ce. Public ofiice
is a trus\ and not to be held in per'*
petuiiy. Any other idea is offensiye
