A servant shall not be liable, civilly or

the master, in defbnce of the master's
person, family, guests, agents, servant,
premises, or properly. II* shall not be
liable for any tort committed on the
premises of the master, by bin express
command.
Hoist: Skiivants.?The rules and
regulations prescribed for master and servant
apply to persons in service as house*
bold servants, conferring the same rights
and imposing the xame duties, with the
following modifications ;
Servants, in the various duties of the
tiouseho'd, and in all the domestic duties
of the family, shall, at all hours of the
u iv or mgnr, ancl on all day* of the
week, promptly answer all calls and obey
and execute all lawful orders and com*
maud* of the family iu whose service
they are employed.
Masters and their families shall, after
ten o'clock at night, and on Sundays,
make no calls on their servants, nor exact
any service of them, which exigencies
of the household or family do not
make necessary or unavoidable.
The wages of household servants shall,
in the absence of any agreement, he fix
f>d by the Judge of lbs District Court or
Magistrate, and be payable at the end
if each month.
It is the duty of this class of servants

A nd now comes the important provisions
to the great majority of our readers,
via : the contract for service. We annex
the most important provisions.
A'l persons of color, who make con.
tracts for service, or labor, in husbandry,
shall he known as servant* and those
with whom they contract,shall be known
as masters.
Contracts between master and servant
for more than one week, shall he in writing,
and attested by one white witness,
and shall be a|>()roved by the Judge of
the District Court, or by one of the
Magistrates.
The period of service shall be express,
ed in tiie contract ; but if it be not ex
pressed, ft shall be until the twenty fifth
day of December of the year in which
it is made
