The correspondence between Got. Honhan
and tbe Secretary of war, in relation to furlough

The matter was referred by Secretaiy Seddon
to Gen. Lee, who replies as follows: "In my
opinion, it is better for the country that all per
sons in the military service, elected either t?
the Htnte Legislatures or Congress, should vacate
their positions in the army. Holding the
| two positions is ruinous to the service. 1 have
had occasion to express my views on this sub
ject to the Derailment before, and experience
strengthens my opinion. Many brigades and
I regiments will be lelt without commanders, il
furloughs are granted to officers elected to legislative
bodies, from which they can not be
