Excitement in IllinoisThe

moral aspect. We make the following
extracts from the Springfield correspondence
of the Democrat:

Copperheads, who, as iu the case of Van*

the authorities, In that caae the force
of the rebels consisted of the three arn?
of the service?foot, horse aud artillery.
They were provided with two pieces of
cannon, which were planted in the Fair
Ground, so as to rake any force attempt
ing to take possession of it. It was evident
from the manner in which the affair was
managed, that the insurgents or rebels
were undec command of skillful officers.
Tltey were well handled, end appeared
to have arr'ved at a fair perfection in
drill. The Union men, (hiding they here
powerless against this armed mob, gave

who then ordered their legiona to disperse.
This is an alarming state of ef
fairs tn the State, which is thus left at
the mercy of men opposed to the existing
Xational and State Governments. There
is not a musket at this moment in the
possession of the Government of the State;
while on the other hand, I hear of its enemies

which their speakers assert is sure
