A very heavy bombardment wax maintained

To this bombardment, which ceased as morning
approached, our batteries replied, it is believed,
with no inconsiderable effect.
On Thursday the batteries were inotunllr si.

a more momentous struggle I'tnn we have yet
seen in the vicinity of Charleston. There aie
now inside the bin two mortar Ironls, the lionsides,
six monitors, tive gunboats and ten supply
vessels. Twelve vessels, .among them it
French man-of-war, bee descried outside, while
in l.ight House Inlet there are ten moiv, these
being made up ot steamboats and schooners ?

The contest between tire batteries continued
til Thursday night, though with less vigor than
was displayed the night bolore^ The morning

In the daikest hour yf our revolution. When
