My Father and Mother.
ItT ECHO.
I
Ask mt) not why 1 heave tho deep sigh,
My feelings I cannot well smother; I
And should I but speak, ibe names I'd re- |
peat.
Would be these, of my father and mother
The world may he gay, In its own wanton
way,
it may fondle and love one another ; |
But no hearts are true, like Iho sun to the
dew, '
But those of a father and mother. 1

Of a dear cherished father and mother.
i
There arc none who can trace, the emotion* '
which ?.-h.it.e,
Across our visage each other ;
Aud foci for ti e woe, which a daughter may ,
know
Lake the true ones, our father and mother.
There'* no tie on earth, which has e'er had |
birth
Tho' climate may chaDgo every other ;
Like the feelings that burn, in the heart's 1
eacrcd urn.
Of the being, we enll our mother.
Lot what may betide, on the world'a ocean
w ide,
Our hearts, will be still knit together ;
And tho' I'm not there, 1 will pray God to
Bparo
Forever, my father and mother.

tnia arc tilings Dial Hie sometimes
taken from the pinions of one goose to
spread the opinions o.' anotlicr.
The hoop question, like most others,
has two sides to it. The indies take the
inside, end of courso wo must take the
other.
The last Mas.? A man wna lately
sent to the Worcester Lunatic Asylum,
for persisting in planting horse chestnuts
in expectation of raising sorrel colts.
'You need a little sun and air,' said a
physician to a maiden patient.
If 1 do,' was the cute reply, Til wait
till I get married.'
'You look,' said an Irishman, to n pale
haggard smoker, 'as if you had got out ol
our grave to light your cigar, and could
not fiud your way back again.'
To find out whom a child loves, make
it a present, and notice to whom it is
most eager to show that present exulting
ly. To fiud out whom a woman hates?
do exactly the same thing.
Two Irishmen, on landing in this country,
and sitting down to their first dinner
on shore, found on the table a dish of pre
pared mustard, which neither of them had
ever happened to meet before. One of
them took a spoonful at a venture, which
quickly brought a deluge of tears to his
e*.
' iU7l--. ?
?? urn are you cry ;ug udouit asked i
his companion.
'I was crying at the iccollection of my
poor father, who was hung about 20 year*
ago.'
Tho dinner proceeded, and soon ihe
other made a dip into the mustard with
?i similar effect.
What are you crying about?' was the
grave inquiry of his comrade.
'I am crying because you wore not
hung when your father was.'
A Hard Story
