In ono of the neatest of those quiet cottages,
on the slope of a gentle hill, with a
smooth, green lawn in front, and shaded
by majestic trees lived Mrs. Heed, the
widow of an English clergyman. 1 lor

the open window-frame, while her brother,
a young man of twenty summers, rather
handsome, about the middle height,
and with a manliness of form peculiar to
young English gentlemen of his ago and
station, seemed deeply intent upon catching
every note of a woman's voice, deep,

those touching melodies which find their
