Mr. George W. Adams left yester
day for Charlotte, where he has ac
cepted a position with the Charlotte
Paper Company as salesmanager for
North Carolina and a portion of
South Carolina.
Mr. H. C. Viele, a popular young
jeweler of Augusta, will leave today
for Cincinnati, Ohio, to attend the
National Retail Jewelers Association
as the representative of the jewelers
of Georgia.
Mrs. M. C. Turner of Greenwood,
accompanied by her daughter, Miss
Addie May Turner, son, Bernard
Turner, niece and nephew, Miss Ca
rey and Mr. Carey, from Philadel
phia, is among the visitors in Edge
field to-day.

at dinner on Sunday in honor of her

Mr. Israel Mukashy announces this
week that his early fall arrivals of

getting the boys and girls ready for

Prof. W. 0. Tatum,Jr" motored
to his old home at Cope, Orangeburg
county, last Thursday for a visit of
a d.iy or two. He stated that the
dar age by weevils to cotton has
been very severe in that section.
Mary farmers will not make more
than a bale of cotton to ten acres.
Much of the drudgery of house
keeping has been eliminated by the
many articles of food that can be
had at grocery stores ready to serve.
Light housekeeping has been made
still lighter by the many good things
sold by the Huggins Store at the De
pot. Read his list of good eats this
week.
Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Daniel and
their six children of Saluda are
guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Minis.
They Motored from Charleston yes
terday after spending the month of
August at the seashore. They have
sold their home in Saluda and will
move the latter part of this week to
Greenwood to reside permanenly.
The Fordson tractor is growing in
popularity because the Ford company
is not loosing an opportunity to de
monstrate its merits. The Yonce Mo
tor Company calls attention this
week to a tractor demonstration
which will be given in Charlotte by
the Ford company. Communicate
with Mr. Yonce if you can attend
this demonstration which will at
tract farmers and other business men
from three states.
Rev. J. T. Littlejohn returned to
his home in Scranton Saturday after
conducting a very successful revi
val meeting at Red Hill church last
week. Mrs. Littlejohn will remain in
Edgefield county until after the
meeting of the Woman's Missionary
Union at Mt. Zion church this week
and the annual meeting of the Edge
field Association at Red Hill next
week. She is the guest of Mr. and
Mrs. H. E. Quarles this week. She
is being very affectionately greeted
by her Edgefield friends.
Mr.- C. M. Mellichamp has since
leaving the post office declin?d sev
eral offers of very good business
positions in order to enter the
Southern Baptist Theological Sem
inary al; Louisville, Ky. as a minis
terial student. Mrs. Mellichamp will
also take the training provided for
wives of ministers and other women
who desire to fit themselves for lar
ger usefulness in religious work.
They will probably leave for Louis
ville early next week to be away
from Edgefield for several years.

Rev. and Mrs. L. A. Gunter spent
Sunday in Edgefield and it was a
great delight to his former congre
gation to hear him preach at the
Methodist church. Mr. Gunter is now
pastor of the Methodist church in
Gaffney.
Service? at the Baptist Church.
After spending the month of Aug
ust in the mountains of western
North Carolina and in the eastern
part of this state, Rev. A. T. Allen
and family have returned to Edge
field. There will be preaching ser
vice both morning and evening at
the Baptist church next Sunday,
Sept. 3rd. The. subject of,the morn
ing hour will be, "The Fever of
Life", and at the evening service
"The True Optimism." Everybody
is cordially invited. Remember the
hours-11:30 and 8:30.
Delightful Rook Party.
Thursday afternoon little Misses
Elizabeth and Corrie Johnson gave
a rook party in honor of their little
cousin, Miss Evelyn Johnson and lit
tle Miss Ruth Gilbert of Columbia.
At the conclusion of a spirited game
the score showed that Miss Martha
Thurmond was entitled to the first
prize, a beautiful box of stationery,
and the consolation prize, a stick of
candy was given to Miss Frances
Wells. Block ice cream and cake
were served after the prizes were a
warded. The occasion was one of un
usual pleasure for all of the little
folk present and will be a source of
pleasant memories for a long time.

Opening of Trenton School.
Prof. E. W. Rentz was among the
visitors in Edgefield Saturday and
stated that the Trenton school would
begin the next session September ll
and all of the patrons of the school
are invied and urged to attend the
opening exercises. Prof. Rentz says
all school books will be much higher
for the next session than they have
been heretofore. The teaching force
at Trenton is as follows: Miss Mae
Harrison, 1st. and 2nd. grades; Miss
Margaret Reynolds of Columbia, 3rd.
and 4th. grades; Miss Addie Bouk
night of Batesburg, 5th. and 6th.
grades; Mr. Bigford of Trenton,
