^License Ordinance for Town of
Edge?eld.
To fix licenses for the town of
Edgefield on Business,, Occupation
Jand Profession from July 15, 1921,
to July 15, 1922, and to provide for
the collection of same.
Be it ordered by the Town Council
cf Edgefield,, S. C., and by authority
of the same :
Sec. 1. That the following licenses
on business, occupation and profes
sion to be paid by the person or per
sons carrying on or engaged in said
business, occupation of profession,
shall be levied and collected for the
term ending July 15, 1922, payable
July 15, 1921 or within thirty days
thereafter, and execution with a pen
alty of ten (10) per cent., upon the
amount of said licenses shall be is
sued and enforced for all licenses un
paid at the . expiration of that time.
Provided, that persons entering into
business, occupation or profession

1922, shall pay one-half the license
for the remainder of the year, and
I no license shall be issued for a less
period than one-half of one year, as

All licenses shall be issued by the
clerk as herein provided. If it be a
firm, shall contain the name of the
firm proposing to do business under
same and all the names of individuals
composing such firm. If it be a cor
poration, it shall contain the name of
the corporation and officers of the
same.
Any person or persons carrying on
business Or occupation or running
any establishment named in this or
preceding sections, without having
taken out license therefor as herein
provided, upon conviction shall be
fined not less than one dollar nor
more than one hundred dollars per
day or fraction thereof, to be im
prisoned in the county jail or to be
sentenced to hard work on the streets
or public works of the town for a pe
riod of not less than thirty days for
each day and every day, or fraction
thereof such business or profession
is carried without license. For any
business, calling, occupation or pro
fession not enumerated in the fore
going, a license tax of not more than
$25.00 shall be paid to the clerk by
person, firm or corporation engaged
in or,running same. All licenses is
sued under this ordinance shall be
posted in a conspicuous place on
premises where business or profession
is carried on, and subject to inspec
tion at any and all times by the offi
cers of the town.
Any person failing to post said li
censes shall be subject to a fine of
not more than five dollars or impris
onment for not more than ten days.
Any firm or officer of any corpora
tion making fraudulent returns,
where a return under oath is by this
ordinance required, shall upon con
viction be fined not less than twenty
five dollars, nor more than fifty dol
lars, or be imprisoned not more than
thirty days nor less than ten days, at
the discretion of the mayor.
Any person, firm or corporation
liable to the license tax herein before
set forth, whose said tax is regulated
by the amount of business done or
the amount of stock carried, is re
quired to make a return under oath
to the clerk of the town council on
or before the 15th day of August,
1921, and on failure so to do, such
person or officer or agent of such
firm or corporation shall be liable to
a fine not exceeding one hundred dol
lars or imprisonment not exceeding
thirty days for each and every day
or fraction thereof such person or of
ficer or agent aforesaid shall be in
default of making such returns.
The license on all dogs of every
age and sex has been reduced to fifty
cents and shall be due and payable at
the same time with city license, above
called for, to the town clerk and
treasurer at his office in the rear of
Farmers Bank at Edgefield.
All licenses issued under the fore
going sections are non-transferable
and will only protect those to whom
they are given.
