It can be done. The proper place for the men who make and sell the stuff is on the .chaingang" or behind the bars. You men who have boys, your boy is hot safe as^ long as whiskey is made in your community, and the automobile, which practically eliminates distance, puts the still miles away almost at your very door. Your boy may be tempted to speed away to a still al most any night without your knowl edge of his whereabouts. Our young men are not safe as long as the stuff is made in Edgefield county. The public schools all .over the State are disintegrating with the close of the present session and must be re-organized or organized all over again, by employing new teachers. This big thankless job is on the .shoulders of the school trustees who almost without exception are men who will give the best that is in them '.to the performance of this great task. ? Employing school superintendents :and teachers, especially when the iunds are limited, is a great under taking, one greater than most people realize. In the performance of the task that lies before them, trustees 33fied sympathy of the parents rather than tbeir criticism. You may think that trustees make an unwise choice in filling school vacancies, forgetting that were you in the place of the trus tee possibly you would not do as well. Sympathize with them rather than criticize school trustees. V? Card of Thanks. I desire to thank our neighbors and friends for their many kindnesses ex tended us during the illness and death of our grondmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Brunson. We shall always hold these kind friends in grateful remem brance, being ready at all times to reciprocate their kindness. WALLACE F. HOLSTON. A Surprise. An ev?nt that will occasion no lit tle surprise among his many friends in Charlotte was the marriage of Mr. Jos. S. Sease to Miss Mary Griffis, of Edgefield, S. C. ,which occurred Sun day, the 24th of April. With even his best friends ignorant of his motive, Saturday morning Mr. Sease left to go or. his vacation with, presumably harmless intentions. Spending the night in Edgefield, next morning he went with an automobile party consisting of the immediate family, to the Methodist church and after the sei'vices requested the preacher to perform the ceremony. After taking dinner at the home of the bride the happy couple left for a two weeks' trip to Washington, Charleston and Savannah to_ visit rel atives. The bride was married in a beau tiful white crepe-de-chine gown and wore a gray traveling suit when leav ing. Mr. Sease is well known in League circles, being president of the Char lotte League1 Union. He is in charge of the clerical work of the Southern Power Company and is an enterpris ing young business man of marked ability. The bride is the daughter of a well known South 'Caroilna planter. She is very popular and has a host of friends throughout the state. Among the many beautiful pres ents received was an electric lamp of attractive design from Trinity Epworth League. He will enforce it to the letter. A word to the wise is sufficient: "There shall be a close time in all the creeks, streams and inland wa ters of the State from the setting of the sun each Saturday until the ris ing of he sun each Wednesday, dur ing which time all seines, nets or any plan of device for the stoppage or collecting of fish, which obstructs any portion of any creek, stream or in land waters other than a dam for manufacturing purposes, sholl be re moved from said creek, streams or in land waters; and any person or per sons using such seine, net, plan or device in violation of the provisions of this Act shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof before any court of compe tent jurisdiction, shall be fined in the sum of two'hundred dollars, one half of which shall go to the informer and the other half to the court in which the case shall be tried, or be imprisoned for a period of not less than thre#e nor more than six months, or both, in the descretion of the court trying the case.
