C., for further -certificate etc. WM Build New Church. Chester, May 17.-The First Bap tist church of Chester, the Rev. Robert G. Lee, Ph. D., pastor, has .decided to erect a magnificent new ?church building. A committee has 3)een appointed to confer with ar .chitects and submit a plan to the congregation at an early,date. Since Dr. Lee came to Chester something more than a month ago, the congregation, already large, has grown wonderfully, and at practi cally every service there has been an overflow. The lack of room is felt in all departments, but particularly in the Sunday school, which has been "growing marvelously. It is hoped to make the new struc ture one of the most complete in every respect in this section of the state. Beginning: Monday, May 23rd. We, the undersigned merchants, do hereby agree to close our respective places of business at 6:00 P. M. Veg etables and fruit crops are about all killed in this community. Whooping cough is still raging in our community and I around Kirk sey it seems to be more serious with some than others. Little Har old Boone is a great sufferer from its effects at present. ? There was another whiskey still found. This one was located on Mr. Mot Payne's plantation.. The Celestia school taught by Miss Grace Verner, will close May 13th1. We will all regret to see her leave for her home in Richland. Mrs. W. V. Faulkner, accompani ed by her daughter and Miss Grace Verner was the guest of Mrs. E. T. Chappell li/st Thursday afternoon. Miss Pauline Ouzts of Greenwood was a recent visitor in our vicinity. Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Freeland visited relatives around Kirksey last Sun day. Mr. E. T. Chappell of Kirksey visited friends on our side last Sunday. Mrs. Martha Ouzts is visiting her son, Mr. W. M. Ouzts, near Kirk sey. Messrs J. B. Chappell and Wyatt McDowell were the guests of Mr. Frank Harris last Sunday. Mr. Ben Dorn called on his friend, Miss Grace Ouzts last Sunday. Miss Viola Ribertson visited her grandparents at Ninety Six last Monday. The stork visited the home of Mr. and' Mrs. Elzie Ouzts and left a lit tle gentleman to stay with them. Mrs. " J. E.
