Mr. Marion McCreless Writes From Texas. Editor The Advertiser: The first newspaper I ever read, and still love it though I don't often get to see it. Well now, I am not writing this for publication although you can dis pose of it as you like. If it goes to the waste basket I must say too, that the first letter I ever wrote was to the Advertiser some time last year, and to my surprise it was published and I have often been asked to write again but have never gotten my con sent till about a month ago when my brother, E. M. McCreless of Colo rado, Texas, came by to see me after a visit to South Carolina. He told me of so many things and people he saw I thought I would write again though I can't write of anything only my recollections of South Carolina, which would be too much to put in a letter though there are many things I would like to speak of. I asked in my former letter whose son the editor of the Advertiser was, but he never told me whether he was the son of James, Bob, or Giles Mims, but I have found since that he was not the son of either of them. I didn't know his father, but I knew the Minis family. Brother told me he was the son of Miss Kate Lan dr um. Well now, I don't know whether she ?remembers much about us or not but I remember her and think I can con ."vince her that I do. Her mother was an invalid several years, however, ..she would feel able to take a ride sometimes, and she would make it . convenient to stop and see my moth ar and sometimes Miss Kate would rbe with her and I can hear my moth .er now talking about,-Miss Kate be ing such a pretty and good girl. Yes, I remember her youngest sis ter too, for I went to school with her,, Miss Pamela. There are many other things I could mention in the , way of recollections but it would be too long. There are a great many names and people that I would like to mention but can't all, but will c-nention a few. Brother said Mr. ?Cush Shepherd took my address. Would be glad to have a letter from "him as any body else in South Caro 3 ina. Now next I am going to tell you of the reunions I have visited and .who of South Carolina I met. At Dallas I met J. Y (Pony) Yeldell, . James Minor, Dr. B. Ht Teague, John Witthen of Arkansas. At New Orleans, Alex Robertson, Dr. B. H. Teague, Thomas Carwile. Don't know whether there is any of 'his family living or not. If not I ^Iknow he has friends living and I want 'so. tell them what sort of a man he although that was my first ac quaintance with him. When I parted with him he said "Goodbye brother, God bless you." He was the first ?ri??? ?Ver said that to me. You know I thought he was the best man that ewer lived. At Mobile I met two of my com pany, William Carson and Giles Chapman, both now dead. At Macon, 1 met Giles Chapman, Sam Pressley, -James Turner of Johnston.
