' Mr. and Mrs. Norwood .Cleveland have arrived from Greenville for the Jones-Nicholson wedding. Mr. Bernard Fitzmaurice of Co lumbia is spending some time with Dr. J. S. Byrd in Edgefield. Mr. Edward Lynch motored from his home in Rowland, N. C., to Edge field to visit his mother, Mrs. Kate Xynch. . ?. Miss June Rainsford left on Tues day to spend sometime with friends in New York, New Jersey and Penn sylvania. , Mr. Raymond Dunovant has re turned from the Bingham Military School in Asheville for the summer vacation. ., Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Forrest and Mrs. Carrie Forrest of Saluda county spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Hudgens. Miss Ethel Cheatham and Miss Emmie Lou Edmunds have arrived from the Due West Female college for the summer. Miss Alleen Dozier is here from Columbia spending several days with her sisters, Mrs. H. A. Smith and Miss Charleton Dozier. Mr. W. L. Nicholson is making im provements on his attractive home on the Blocker road. He will also re paint and renew throughout. Mr. J. W. Stewart, Mr. H. E. Quarles and District Attorney Thur mond are in Anderson this week at tending the United States court. The graduating exercises of the High School will be held in the High School Auditorium Friday night. Dr. Moffatt will deliver the literary ad dress. Miss Maybelle Reel, Misses Marga ret and Emma Blocker, Misses Em mie and Annie Sue Broadwater are at home from Coker College for the summer vacation. "We are glad to say that little Ruby Corley is at home again from the Wilhenford Hospital in Augusta where she underwent a very serious operation and has been greatly ben eficed. Misses Ruth and Grace Tompkins have returned from a winter in Hopkinsville, Ky., Miss Ruth having] had charge of the gymnasium depart ment in the college there and Miss Grace was a student. Miss Ouida Pattison has graduated fronr the Anderson college and has been elected a member of the faul ty. From student to teacher-what higher compliment could be paid a "sweet girl graduate?" The two airships that spent Fri and Saturday also Sunday in Edge field gave pleasant diversion to a number of our people. Probably near ly one hundred availed themselves of the novel experience of a mid-air) spin. LOST: Spare tire and rim, "Fisk" 34x4% on Dixie Highway. Reward. P. F. HENDERSON, Aiken, S. C. Miss Agnes Wallace and Miss Hayne of Columbia were guests of Miss Sophie Minis last week. She gave a delightful picnic in their hon or Saturday at Salter's pond near Trenton. On last Friday night Miss Nellie Paul entertained a few of her friends with a rook party. After the young couples had enjoyed rook for a while they were invited into the dining room where delightful pineapple cream and cake were served. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Hughes are now occupying one of the new bungalows on Wigfall street. Mrs. Hughes and the children arrived Sunday from North Carolina where they have been visiting relatives. Edgefield extends Mr. and Mrs. Hughes and their chil dren a very cordial welcome. Messrs. Reynolds & Padgett will conduct a price reduction sale from Thursday, June 3, to Saturday, June 19. During that time clothing will be sold at 20 per cent reduction and shoes will also be sold at reduced prices. Read their half-page adver tisement in this issue. To-morrow evening at 8:30 o'clock Miss Nelle Braxton Jones will be come the bride of Mr. Thomas Lau rence Nicholson, the ceremony taking place at the home of the bride's pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Jones. The bride-elect is being showered with numerous attentions by her Edge field friends. Mr. F. A. Vause, the proprietor of the hotel at Belton, came* down to Edgefield Monday for a conference with the directors of the Dixie High way Hotel with the view of' renting the property. It is very probable that a lease will effected with him. Mr. Vause is regarded by the traveling men, who are unerring judges, as one of the best hotel men in the State. For County Commissioner. Mr. John O Herin announces his candidacy this week for re-election to the office of county commissioner. He has served several terms and asks for re-election upon his record of ser vice. Mr. Herin resides in the Long Branch section and ranks among the best citizens in the, county. T. A. Broadwater Celebrates Ninth Birthday. ' On Tuesday afternoon from 4:30 to 6:30, little T. A. Broadwater, the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Broadwater, celebrated his ninth birthday by a reception for all his little friends at his lovely home on the hill. All the little folks who went returned home with glowing account of the lovely party. Ice cream and cake was bounti fully served. Entertainment at Red Hill School House. There will be a play at Red Hill school house on the evening of June 11th, beginning at 8:30 o'clock. This play will be the work of home talent, and much preparation is being made to make the occasion a success. The play is entitled "Aunt Dinah's Quilting Party" and is filled with fun and entertainment from start to finish. Be sure and come. Admission fee, 25 cents for adults and 15 cents for children. Proceeds for church purposes. Result of Municipal Election. In spite of the unusual interest manifested, both in the mayoralty race and in some of the contests in the wards, the municipal election passed off quietly. The official result being as follows: For Mayor, Dr. J. G. Edwards, '157; Bettis Cantelou, 102; Wardens, 1st ward, R. C. Pad gett, and M. H. Deal 16, a tie vote; 2nd ward, W. A. Strom, 21, R. E. Morgan, ll; 3rd ward, F. P. Ouzts, 37, T. A. Hightower, 15 and J. G. Alford 10; 4th ward, G. W. Adams, 27, C. M. Thomas 13; 5th ward, S. B. Nicholson, 34 and W. F. McMur rain, 25; 6th ward, R. T. Edgefield feels greatly honored in having the ministers and laymen of the Columbia district of the Metho dist Conference as guests Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, when the District Conference will convene in Edgefield. Bishop Darlington will arrive in Edgefield Monday afternoon and the first ses sion will be held Monday night. Chamberlain's Colic and Diarrhoea Remedy. One of the lovliest affairs of the season, occurring as it did on the first day of June, the month of ro mance and weddings, was the one at the home ?f Mr. and Mrs. Lovick in honor of the wedding party of the Jones-Nicholson wedding, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Corley being hostesses. At the door Dr. and Mrs. A. H. Corley with Mr. and Mrs. Lovic' Smith received the guests. Thirty guests were seated, the or chestra giving most beautiful music. The luncheon was in four courses and progressive, after dinner coffee being served in the drawing room af ter the guests had, assembled. Little Miss Elizabeth Bailey and Miss May Beth Thomas were in charge of the register. The decorations were-the loveliest of spring flowers, and the bride was costumed in a handsome gown of 'Hue brocade. As a i centrepiece, a doll, the pos session of Miss Jones in her child hood, was tastefully dressed as a bride. The favors were gorgeous pa per hats decorated in festooning, which gave a touch of humor and gayety to the scene. Why That Headache?
