Union Meeting at Berea.
A large congregation gathered at
?-Berea Sunday to attend the second
day of the Union meeting. The occa
sion was a very pleasant and profi
able one. The sermon in the morning
was preached by Dr. R. G. Lee, being
very helpful and inspiring. During
the intermission for dinner the social
feature was greatly enjoyed, en
abling neighbors and friends to have
very pleasant conversation after the
bountiful feast so graciously served
by the* good people of the Berea
church and community. They always
make visitors in their midst feel at
home and enjoy every minute of
their stay. During the afternoon Mrs.
J. R. Fizer of Columbia spoke, pre
senting the cause of woman's work
and urged loyalty and activity on the
part of every one present. Dr. R. G.
Lee also spoke briefly on the subject
"How to Follow Up the 75-Million
Campaign." The next meeting in Au- J
gust will be held at Edgefield.
Death of Little Frank Watson
Ouzts.
The death angel entered the home
of Mr. and Mrs. A. W.. Ouzts Thurs
day evening, May 27, 1920 and saw
, fit to take from them their precious
fi little darling baby, Frank Watson,
who had only been with them 21
months, after an illness of only two
weeks.
Frank was a sweet and attractive
child and loved by everyone who
knew him. The ways of God are of
ten mysterious and hard to be borne
but we should be submissive to His
r. will, knowing that God doeth all
things well. How thoughtful we
should feel to know that little Frank
is now among the millions of angels
surrounding the great white throne
of God.
"A precious form from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled,
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled."
God in His- wisdom has recalled
the boon His love had given and
though the body slumbers here the
soul is safe in heaven.
It was hard to give Frank up, a
little darling ?;O pure and sweet. But
be is one mere angel that will be
waiting papa and mama to greet.
! A FRIEND.
' A Card From Mr. Mims.
To the People of Edgefield County:
It has not been my purpose or de
sire to enter the campaign this sum
mer. Had I expected to become a can
.?date, I would have made a formal
? .nmouncement earlier. However, ear
..nest solicitations from persons from
offer my services to the county and
lin person and by letter,' have caused
me to consent to serve the people in
:the State senate, if a majority of
them so desire. The matter has been
presented to me as a call to duty, in
timating ' that I would be a slacker
in time of peace should I refuse to
different parts of the county, both
State at this time. jSome have said to
me in effect: We honored you two
years ago ?and . now the people need
the legislative,: experience you have
gained. ?Some entertain the belief
that the people's interests would suf
fer,, were an entirely new delegation
Elected, and if no member of the
present delegation entered the cam
paign, a new delegation would be
.chosen. If the people see fit to select
mie as their representative in the
State senate, I pledge the same faith
fulness and fidelity to duty for the
ensuing four years ibat I bave en
deavored to give in the past two as
a member of .the House.

Martha and Mary Thurmond
Celebrate Eleventh Birthday.
. On Friday afternoon, May 28th,
the attractive little twin sisters, Mar
tha and Mary Thurmond celebrated
their eleventh birthday with a love
ly party, to which a number of their
little friends were invited.
Peanuts had been hidden around
the pretty lawn, and the children had
a merry time hunting in the hedges
and flowers for them. John Curran
Feltham was found to be the winner
and'was presented with a prize.
Game after game filled the happy
hours before the little couples march
ed into the prettily decorated din
ing room where delicious strawberry
cream and pink iced cakes, with pink
mints were served.
The dining room table was center
ed with the white iced birthday cake
on which eleven pink tapers burned.
From the pink shaded chandelier,
four rose colored garlands were
gracefully draped. Little tables were
arranged around the room also, and
all were adorned with sweet peas.
Vases of Dorothy Perkins roses
carried out further the elaborate
pink and white color scheme.
Numerous gifts were bestowed on
thhe little hostesses and the very
genuine good wishes that many more
such joyuous birthdays may come
and bring so much joy.
