Wednesday, May 26. ^ Mrs. Mathis Entertained in V Honor of Miss Nelle Jones. / The parties for Miss Nelle Jones are increasing in number and mag nificence. The one for this week took place in Trenton, S. C., at the spa cious home of Mrs. J. D. Mathis, Sr. There were a number of Edgefield guests present and also many from Trenton. The hall, parlor and dining room were beautifully decorated in Doro thy Perkins roses. Mrs. J. D. Mathis, Sr., Mrs. J. D. Mathis, Jr., and Mrs. Wallace Wise I received the guests. The first form - of entertainment was rook, which proved the skill of the many players. Punch was served at the several ta bles. Little Cupid walked about with his gossamer wings and winning smile Little J. D. Mathis, 3rd, had the pleasure of representing this classic little figure. A lovely bouquet of sweet peas ? and peonies was presented to Miss Jones and an attractive bride's mot . to on green cardboard bearing a miniature groom. Delightful music was enjoyed dur ing the afternoon by the gifted guests of the occasion. After the rook playing was finished a very elaborate menu was served, consist ing of a chicken salad course with aced tea, a fruit salad course with nuts and mints, and a delicious ba nana split. Miss Emma Bouknight gave a love ly selection on the piano and Miss Jones of Edgefield played with her usual sweet touch. Miss Florence i- -Hims of Edgefield gave two selec tions, the first, "My Ships," a love poem by Ella Wheeler Wilcox and another love song, Quien Sabe, by Waller. The guests from Edgefield were Mrs. B. B. Jones, mother of the bride, Miss Elise Lake, Miss Nelle Jones, Miss Gladys Padgett, Miss Helen Tillman, Mrs. A. H. Corley, Mrs. Lovic Smith and Miss Florence Mirna. Mrs. Mathis' gracious hospitality made the party one of the most charming of the season, and her spacious home lent itself most pleas ingly as a background for the vari colored costumes of the guests. ? A GUEST [ Addison Mills News. ^ Addison Mills has rented and pre Wpared a ball park for their boys to J play hall on which is located just .across the street from the old Fair Grounds. They will be glad to have -all of the boys in town and the coun try to io in in and make the games ; successful. Messrs. J. D. Sharp and L. W Kedd, the wide-awake overseers of the weaving and carding depart ments will leave this coming Satur day for Wasington, New York and Boston. This trip is being given to these gentlemen by the company as .an expression of appreciation for the splendid work that is being done lat the mill. ' Miss Daisy A. Misenheimer spent ?,the week-end with Miss Mary Hughes iMc T. A. Hightower, Superinten .dent, spent the week-end'in Spar tanburg ?attending the South Caro lina Textile Association. While there .he spent a few pleasant hours with fois father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. ??ch'a A. Hightower. j&C W, M, Russell, representative of the American Warp Drawing in Machine Company of Greenville, S. C., was with us Monday. MT. Roy McCollough vsiited in Johnston Saturday. Mr. M. B. Tucker spent a very pleasant week-end with his mother and father of Conyers, Georgia. On his return he made business calls in Ailar.ta, Thomson and Augusta, Ga. The farmers are busy planting their crops after having such a late beginning. Waycross school closed last Fri day, May 7th. Miss Sallie Quarles, who taught here this past session, left Saturday, May 8th for her home in McCormick. After being with us for two years, we regret giving her up, as she will not come back this fall. ^ Rev. W. D. Butler will preach at the school house the second Sunday afternoon of each month. Mr. W. M. Ransom motored over to Columbia Saturday in his new car. He was accompanied by Mr. Cal bort Ramsey. Miss Beulah Cloer is spending this week with the Misses Ransom. Miss Mary Lewis spent Wednes day in Edgefield shopping. The stork has visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Hall and left a fine little daughter. Mr. Fred Turner spent last Wed nesday night with Mr. Leslie Rear don. Mrs. D. B. Fant and son, David, Jr., and Mrs. Ida Nicholson spent last Friday night in Ridge Spring, S.
