Closing Exercise of Flat Rock
' School.
Friday a goodly number of people
of the Flat Rock and adjoining com
munities came together for the beau
tiful closing exercises of the school
which has been well taught the past
session by Mrs. J. M. Bussey and
Mrs. Fannie Cobia.. The exercises
were opened with prayer by Mr. J.
M. Bussey who acted as master of
ceremonies. As the subjoined pro
gram will show, practically all of the
children of the school took part in
the miscellaneous programme, every
number of which was well rendered
and reflected credit upon the ? pupils
and the very faithful and capable
teachers.
At the conclusion of the exercises
by the children, addresses were made
by Mr. W. W. Fuller, the very wor
thy county superintendent of educa
tion, and Mr. J. L. Mims. Mr. Fuller
referred to the fact that the Flat
Rock school district was the first in
the county to vote o special school
levy and urged the patrons of the
% school to increase their school levy
to eight mills so'as to conform to the
recently enacted law which provides
for State aid. As explained^by Mr.
Fuller, through this act evelry school
in the county and States can provide
sufficient funds to pay their teach
ers adequate salaries.
The new building which houses the
Flat Rock school is a lasting credit
to the patrons of the school and to
the people of the community. It is
large, conveniently arranged, well
lighted and well ventilated.
