attend the Grand Opera.
Mr. W. P. Yonce has withdrawn
from the race for warden in ward
six, which leaves Mr. R. T. Hill unop
posed for the position.
Mr. Wayne Darlington stopped
over in Edgefield for a brief visit
Tuesday while en route from Texas
to his home in Pennsylvania.

Mr. A. A. Glover who moved sev
eral years ago to North, S. C., to
make his home was recently appoint

meros, left Edgefield he has taken
himself a bride. He was married in
New York Thursday.

ginning the second Sunday in June.
Dr. W. M. Vines, pastor of the First
Baptist church of Norfolk, Va., will
do the preaching and the music will
be directed by Mr. Frank McCravy.

The new grocery store of Moore
Brothers who are advertising in this

The Edgefield Demicratic club No.
1 elected the following delegates to
the county convention: J. C. Shep
pard, S. McG. Simkins, T. B. Grene
ker, N. G. Evans, W. W. Fuller and
David Strother. Mr. A. E. Padgett
was elected a member of the county
executive committee.
Work on the new hotel goes slow
ly but steadily forward. The contrac
tors have encountered much unfav
orable weather since they broke
ground. Brick work on the third floor
has made sufficient headway to gite
a very good idea of what an impos
ing front the building will make
when completed.

Summer Chautauqua.
Edgefield is to have this year what
every town should have-a summer
chautauqua. It will be given by the
Radcliffe System May ll, 12 and 13.
The programme will be varied so as
to afford pleasant and profitable en
tentainment for all ages. High-class
entertainment, such as chautauquas
furnish, is helpful to every commu
nity and is always worth more than
the cost. We trust that the people of
Edgefield and adjoining communities
will give the local managers or guar
antors of the chautauqua their full
est co-operation.
In Memory of Mrs. John Mc
Gee.
After intense suffering fo* several
weeks, Mrs John McGee died at her
home near Cleora, April 1. 1920, and
was laid to rest at Berea church the
following day. Mrs. McGee was a
true Christian woman, always kind
and thoughtful of others. Few have
to suffe? as she did, but :>he bore it
patiently. Just a few days before her
death she told Her loved ones not to
grieve for her. "It is well with my
soul.'.'
The casket was covered with
many beautiful flowers from loving
friends. The sympathy of the entire
community goes out to all her
loved ones .and may they be brought
nearer to her God through the life
that she has lived.

the lead stick to the plant and aids to
destroy some of the eggs of the pest.
Since the cabbage head grows from
the inside^ there is no danger in the
us? of this treatment, however, for
sa:cety, stop using the spray three
weeks before harvest of the cabbage.
If the cabbages are sprayed now,
there will be very few worms later
on in the season.

Death of Mrs. Levi Reese.,
On Sunday, April ll, Mrs. Levi
Reese died at her home in the Meri
wether section. This good woman
was spared to her loved ones and
friends for nearly 70 years. She was
before her marriage a Miss Ander
son. She was a member of Hardy's*
church and the funeral was conduct
ed by her pastor, Rev. P. B. Lan
ham,' Monday, April 12, the inter
ment taking place at the Thurmond
burial ground.
I take this means of announcing
that I am a candidate for re-election
as warden for the town of Edgefield
from the 4th ward and will abide by
the rules governing the election.

Beautiful Home Wedding
Near McCormick. -
On Wednesday the 14th of April,
promptly at four o'clock, in McCor
mick county at the home of Mr.
Bart Talbert was the sequel of a
quiet but lovely marriage. The con
tracting parties were Mr. E. J. Mil
ler and Miss> Marie Talbert, the eld
est daughter of Mr. Bart Talbert, the
Rev. P. B. Lanham officiating.
Immdiately after the ceremony the
bridal party motored down to Edge
field to Mr. Joe Miller's where Mr.
and Mrs. E. J. Miller will be at home
to their friends until Mr. Miller com
pletes his modernly constructed
home which is now under good head
way. The party arrived at Mr. Joe
Miller's at eight o'clock and were
met at the gate by a few friends and
relatives who extended a hearty weL
come to the bridal couple. Then they
were escorted into the reception
room which was brilliantly lighted,
giving pomp and splendor to the oc
casion.
The bride wore a dark blue coat
suit which was very becoming to her
brunette beauty. In a few minutes
after entering the parlor, all were
ushered into the dining room where
there was a bountiful spread, served
in three courses. The courses were
not all served in silver or china, as
sometimes the case, there was noth
ing princely neither very primitive
about the ware, but the contents
were superb. Fruit, chicken and po
tato salad, saratoga chips, turkey and
chicken, all baked to a beautiful
brown, cakes, iced tea and ice cream.
Then came the ring cutting. Miss
Fannie Wells cut the ring, Miss
Marion Miller cut the dime. Then all
repaired to the parlor where we had
some music by three young music
scholars, acquiting themselves well
and giving credit to their teacher,
Mrs. D. T. Mathis, Jr., who followed
them with some beautiful renditions
apd was enjoyed so much that she
was called on again, and of course,
she courtesied, and just^then a musi
cal tone was heard from the clock
on the mantel letting everybody
know midnight had arrived.
All rose to their feet and were
homeward bound.
