Dr. R. A. Marsh is in Greenville
attending the annual meeting of the
State Medical Association.
Mrs. Hettie S. Brown of Green
ville is here visiting her mother, Mrs.
Ida. F. Sheppard.
The ten recently elected deacons
of the Baptist church will be ordain
ed the first Sunday in May.
A meeting of the Odd Fellows will
be held Monday night at 8 o'clock.
All members are urged to be present.
Mrs. C. T.. Graydon of Columbia,
is here visiting her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. S. McG. Simkins.
Miss June Rainsford will leave
Friday for East Orange, N. J., to vis
it a school friend and will be absent
several weeks.
Mrs. Emma N. Dobson has return
ed from a verp pleasant visit to her
sister, Mrs. Ida. Boatwright at Ridge
Spring.
Mr. N. D. Robertson of Augusta
has been spending several days in
Edgefield visiting his daughter, Mrs.
Pearce Thomas.
After attending the Federation of
Clubs in Rock Hill this week Miss
Elizabeth Rainsford will visit friends
in York and Lancaster, being away
several weeks.

wood to attend the Intercollegiate
Oratorical contest.
The friends of Mr. Julian Key
deeply regret that he is quite ill at a
hospital in Columbia. Mr. and Mrs.
C. H. Key went to Columbia yester
day to be with him.
Married, Tuesday afternoon, April

lock, at the residence of the officiat
ing minister, Mr. Archie Lewis Hart
and Miss Eva M. Pruitt of Johnston.
The Edgefield Basket Ball team is
winning all of the honors. Not a team
yet been found that can cope success
fully with them. Like Alexander the
Great, they are weeping because
there are no more worlds to conquer.
Mrs. Manly Timmons came down
from Tro: to Edgefield, being the
guest of Mrs. J. L. Mims while here.
This morning she will leave for
Washington, D. C., to spend a month
with her daughter, Mrs. F. L. Parker.
Mr. Thomas W. Carwile is here
visiting his mother, Mrs. M. E. Car
wile, and sister Mrs.. R. A. Marsh Mr.
Carwile is in the service of a large
advertising company and divides his
time between Birmingham, Ala., and
Buffalo, N. Y.
Through a typographical error
the statement was made in Mr. M. A.
Taylor's advertisement last week
that he was delivering 10 pounds of
ice for 10 cents, when it should have
fceen 15 pounds of ice for 10 cents.

Closing Exercises of Antioch
School.
All patrons and friends of the An
tioch school are cordially invited to
attend the closing exercises on Fri
day evening, April thirtieth.
The program will begin promptly
at eight o'clock. The entertainment
included all grades of the school.

Matteson Concert Company
Coming.
The Philharmonic Club is planning
to bring the Matteson Concert Com
pany to Edgefield during the week
of May 10th. This will be a high class
musical attraction and we hope to
have a large attendance. A furthur
announcement will-appear later.
Successful Meeting at John
ston.
Dr. R. G. Lee has labored hard at
Johnston the past ten days assisting
Rev. W. S. Brooke in a revival meet
ing. Just as he wins people every
where with whom he comes in con
tact, Dr. Lee has won the hearts of
the Johnston people. Sunday after
noon he preached a sermon to the
men and the large church was filled.
More than a score of men from Edge
field attended this special service. We
understand that the meeting at John
ston has been a great success.
Off For Northern Trip.
Mrs. J. L. Mims will leave this
morning for Boston to attend the
commencement exercises of the Le
land Powers School of Expression,
from which her daughter, Miss Flor
ence Mims, will graduate next week.
While en route to Boston Mrs. Mims
will attend the National D. A. R.
Conference in Washington'this week.
After spending ten days in Boston
she and her daughter will visit rela
tives in New Hampshire. On their
return trip they will stop several
days in New Ycrk and will attend the
Southern Baptist Convention in
Washington, which opens May 12,
reaching Edgefield about May 15.
Kemp-Thomas.
The marriage of Miss Mattie
Kemp and Mr. C. M. Thomas, Thurs
day evening, April 8, at the home of
Dr. R. G. Lee who performed the
ceremony, has caused these two
widely beloved Edgefield people to be
showered with congratulations by
their friends. From the time that
both of them came to Edgefield to
make their home, Miss Kemp coming
from the Mountain Creek section and
Mr. Thomas from the Cleora section,
they have won for themselves a host
of friend's. Mr. Thomas has made a
pronounced success of his mercantile
business near the station and Miss
Kemp will be greatly missed by her
friends from her place in Mr. Ruben
stein's store, where she has been em
ployed fer several years. The Ad
vertiser joins the friends of Mr. and
Mrs. Thomas in extending hearty
congratulations.
> Meeting of Music Club.
The April meeting of ?the Philhar
monic Music Club was held at the
home of Mrs. W. J. Duncan Thurs
day afternoon.
The program was from the operas
"Lucia" and "Aida," both beautiful
in story as well as in song. Miss
Elizabeth Rainsford read the story
of the opera "Lucia," the the "Sex
tette" from Lucia was played as a
Victrola selection. Mrs. Tillman read
a synopsis of "Aida" which was fol
lowed by "Farewell, O E.irth," on
the Victrola. Miss Justine Cantelou
played a lovely piano s?lo which
everyone enjoyed. ?
During the business hour the oiub
decided to correspond with the Mat
teson Concert Company concerning
a concert in Edgefield during the
week of May the tenth. A further an
nouncement will appear later.
Miss Elizabeth Rainsford will re
present the club at the Federation
at Rock Hill.
Mrs. W. Mooney was welcomed as
a new member into the club.
Mrs. Duncan and Mrs. DeVore ser
ved delightful apple salad, olive and
egg sandwiches and coffee with
whipped cream.
A Delightful House Party.
Miss Nelle Jones entertained a de
lightful house party last week, her
guests being Miss Gertrude Mason of
Memphis, Tenn., Miss Marjorie Pos
tal of Bluffton, Indiana, Miss Elise
Lake of Kathwood, S. C., and Mr. J.
Mitchell Chase of Clearfield, Penn.

tained lavishly and very beautifully
in honor of her visitors. One even

For Bride-Elect.
Miss Mary Bruton, popular bride
elect, was honored with a lovely din
ner party given last night at Ridge
wood club by Miss Helen Tillman of
Edgefield, who is in the city visiting
Mrs. Bunyan Cooner and who will be
one of the bridesmaids at the mar
riage this week of Miss Bruton and
John Bollin, Jr. The table was love
ly with its centrepiece of pink roses
artistically arranged in a silver bas
ket, the handles of which were tied
with soft bows of pink tulle. Tiny
pink baskets also tied with the pink
tulle and filled with pink mints were
found at each plate and the lovely
little place cards were bridal slippers
filled with orange blossoms. Pink
tulle extended from the chandelier
to the corners of the t?ble. .
The bride's place at the table was
marked by a tiny miniature doll
bride wearing a bride's dress and
orange blossoms in her hair. The can
dlesticks with, their warmly tinged
shades were also tied with bows of
the pink tulle and a bowl of sweet
peas added the finishing''color notes
to the exquisitely appointed table.
