bia to make her home with her niece,

gie Hill in Columbia. Edgefield re
grets to lose Miss Hill from the com

Miss Mattie Sue Holston who has
been taking a business course since
last fall in Columbia, has finished
and is at homo again. She has a po

The Philharmonic music club will
meet next Thursday afternoon at 4

It was announced on Sunday in
the churches that a public meeting
would be held in the Baptist church
on Sunday afternoon, February 22,
Washington's birthday, when Mr.
Lumpkin of Columbia would speak
and certificates presented members
of families who lost their sons in the
World War. There were 25 white and
colored soldiers who made the su
preme sacrifice. This meeting is ar
anged by the Edgefield Post, Ameri
can Legion, J. 0. Sheppard Comman
dant. The program will be published
next week.
The sermons on the Ten Command
ments at the Baptist church are at
tracting great interest and discus
sion. Sunday, the morning subject
was "Thou shalt not take the name of
the Lord, thy God in vain." In the
evening the sermon was on Sabbath
Observance. The latter was presented
from a very unusual viewpoint and
was full of common sense, giving
people a broad and hopeful view of
the Sabbath as it is today, and yet
glorifying the day as a time of re
ligious instruction and |communion
with eternal verities.

teachers at the Sweetwater School,
sends in this week a beautifully writ
ten news letter from one of her pu
pils, Nona Morgan. This is a splen
did idea, that of training young peo
ple to observe and record the happen
ings of the community in which they
live. The Advertiser will expect an

Entetaining Lyceum Attraction
The fourth attraction of the Lyce- ?
um course played to a crowded house,
in fact, so great was the good humor
ed, happy crowd that the perform
ance was delayed until more chairs
could be brought, notwithstanding I
the fact that the committee had ar-P
ranged for an extra number of seats.
From start to finish Poluhni held
the people spell bound. They drank
in his sweet music from the romantic
lyre, they watched, fascinated, the
marvellous manipulation of the Swiss
aells, in which Madame Poluhni as
sisted most adeptly. They laughed at
:he clever jokes which interspersed
the program, adding humor to the
Entertainment, and marvelled at the
nystical illusions, the new wonderful
ricks that this wizard performed.
The hand of Time swung back,
naking each spectator, regardless of

Bennie Parker Married.
Our friend, Bennie Parker sur
prised his friends in Edgefield by
sending the message of his marriage
to a young lady of Kansas on last
Wednesday. The message came over
long distance phone and was so un
satisfactory in detail that the partic
ulars can not be announced at this
time.
Kansas is a great state. There they
have had prohibition and Woman's
Suffrage a long time, and although
originally an arid state, is listed now
as having the highest per capita sav
ings of any other state in all the
United States.
Mr. Parker has found a companion
in this central hub of our nation and
we are sure he has made a wise se
lection. Particulars will be given lat
er.
Dots From Sweet Water.
Cooper School is getting along
nicely with two, teachers, Miss Mar
jorie McKie and Miss Mary Waters.
We are very fond of both. We are
having bad weather but the school is
aroing on just the same.
Our school is located a mile from
where Old Curryton School used to
stand, where some of our fore pa
rents got their education.
The community was saddened by
;he death of Dr. Nixon Bunch, who
lied at the University Hospital. He
eaves a wife and two children. His
jodywas carried to Greymont, S. C.,
"or burial which is near his home in
Spartanburg.
Miss Nettis Sempson from Green
ville is visiting Mr. and Mrs. John
Healing.
Miss Christine is at home from G.
N. C. on account of influenza.
Our beloved old Confederate sol
lier, Mr. H. E. Mealing, at the age of
lighty-two, milks his cows, feeds his
nules and hogs and is very active for

Mrs. Theresa Adams, his sister, at
he age of eighty-six, is also very ac
ive for her age. May God spare
