It's a pity thp weevil will not let ns grow seed if not the lint. Mrs. Hal Beman of Augusta spent the past week here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Key. Mrs. W. H. Turner came down from Greenwood Monday. She was very cordially greeted by her friends here. According to the way all of the stores are making provision for the holiday needs, old man Santa Claus expects to visit every home through out the county. Mr. Alfred Covar is assisting the regular force at the depot dorine the rush incident to Christmas freight. He was employed in a j railroad'office in the west for sev eral years and made good. Mr. J. M. Wright bas rented the | Harrison place next door to Mr. M. C. Parker's residence and will move j his family to Edgefield in a short time to remain until he builds on J hif farm. The Knights of Pythias will bold an important meeting next; Tuesday night, December 19, and all members are urged to be pres- j ent. The meeting will be one fall | of interest. Walker, one of the] best citizens of the Antioch section, left for Charleston Monday to rep resent the Red Hill Masonio lodge at the Grand Lodge which is in ses sion this week. A me?ting of the Civic League will be held Monday afternoon at 3:80 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Kate W. Cheatham. A large at tendance is requested. . The children will soon be "let I loose from school" for the holidays. Already they are counting the days j just as the college students who are j away are counting the days till the home-coming. The Addison Mills announce thiel week that its ginnery will be in op eration every day until Christmas. It also thanks the people for their patronage in the past. Mr. Orlando Sheppard is spend ing this week in Charleston attend ing the annual meeting of the board of visitors cf the Citadel and also the Masonic grand lodge. The JEdgefield lodge is being represented by B. E. Nicholson and M. P. Wells. Mr. J. Perry Waddell will hold auction sales of stoclc at Aiken to morrow, Ridge Spring Friday a^id Saluda Saturday. He will hold another big auction at Edgefield the first Monday in January, which will .be the first day of the new year. See our line of ladie's and chil dren's handkerchiefs, in holiday boxes. Smith-Marsh Co. The ladies of the Presbyterian church are making extensive prepa rations for their annual bazaar which will be held in the vacant store under the opera house Tues day, December 19. This occasion will measure up to the high stand ard set by the ladies in the past, Mr. E. J. Mims attended the meeting of citizens held at Faixfax Monday for the purpose of arous ing farmers and causing them to prepare for the coming of the boll weevil. Governor Manning, Com missioner of Agriculture E. J. Wat son and others made addresses. Mr. Mims was the only representative from this county. Mr. J. D. Holstein, Jr., returned Friday from his trip cf a week to the Overland automobile factory in Toledo. While in the northwest he made a sidetrip into Canada but managed to elude the English or Canadian enlisting officer. This ww a fine trip which our young friend took, one ?hat will always be a source of pleasant memories. We >have an excellent lino of lisle and silk bose and half-hose. Come in and look them over. They make useful Christmas gifts. Smith-Marsh Co. Entertained Card Club. Saturday afternoon Mrs. Percy M. Eelthara entertained the Thurs day afternoon card club very beau tifully. In addition to the mem bers of the club there were several visitors present who were cordially welcomed. Five tables were ar ranged, one being for the guests, Mrs. P. P. Blalock, Jr., Mrs. J. W. Thompson, Miss Katherine Fitz maurice and Miss Marie Brady. The tables and mantel of the parlor contained vases of beautiful pink carnations. The secretary recorded the score which will not be an nounced until the close of the series of games. The hostess presented each of the guests of honor with carnations. Turkey, cranberry sauce, hot rolls and coffee were daintily served at the conclusion of the game. We are showing a nice line of caps, band-bags, handkerchiefs, &a, for Christmks gifts. An Ordinance to prevent feeding of horses, mules or cattle on the pub lic square and on Main Street in the Town of Edgefield, S. C. Be it ordained by the Town Council of the Town of Edgefield, S. C., and by authority of the same: Section 1. That it shall be unlaw ful, on and after the first day of January, A. D., 1917, to feed horses, runles or cattle on the Pub lic Square in the Town of Edge field, S. C., or on Main Street in said Town. Section 2. That any person or persons violating the provisions of this Ordinance shall be deemed guilty, pf a misdemeanor and upon ' conviction thereof shall be fined not less than Five (5) nor more than Twenty-five (25) Dollars or be im prisoned'in the Couuty Jail or at hard labor upon the streets of said Town for not lesa than five nor more than thirty days.
