Miss Kate Pattison and Mr. C. J. Dennis were married in Augusta shout noon Monday by Dr. Ashby Jones, pastor of the First Baptist church of that city. They left im mediately for Asheville to spend their honeymoon. The announce ment of their marriage was a sur prise to their Edgefield friends. Information for the Girls. Judging from the crops that Bach lor Luke May is growing on one of his farms this1 year, he evidently is planning to feed sjrae one else be sides himself. He told us a few days ago that besides cotton and corn, he has peanuts, popcorn, sweet potatoes, Irish potatoes, peas, string beans, snap beans, bunch beans, pole beans, corn-field beans, pumpkins, watermelons, ducks, tur keys, chickens, guineas, peafowls, geese and scores of other things ihat we haven't the time or the space to mention. The county executive committee met here yesterday and set the fol lowing campaign dates for this county: Denny, July 1 8; Oak Grove, Ju ly 21; Zoar, August 4; Werts Spring, August 7; Ward, August S-. Ridge Spring, August ll; Rich land, August 12; McCarty's, Au gust 13; Bowers, August 15; Cot aey's August 19; Saluda, August 22. The assessments tor the various offices were fixed as follows: Senate, *10; house of representatives, $10; auditor, $10; treasurer, $10; magis trate, $2.50 From present prospects there will be very few aspirants for office in this county this time. Those known now who will make the races for the several offices are: For senate, E. L. Ready and G. W. Wightman; for house of representatives, T. E. LaGrone and J. C. Riley; for audi itor, N. B. Hazel and B. F. Webb; for treasurer, J. ti. DeLoach.-Dis patch From Salada. Johnston's Chautauqua. We have said much about the John ston Chautauqua for several weeks, and we will now make a last appeal to The Advertiser's readers to at tend the splendid entertainments that Johnston will offer the people throughout next week. Many per sons will go to the cities to see at tractions that are not a whit better than Johnston v?ill offer for next week, not only paying higher prices in cities but paying railroad fare and hotel bills also. Commencing with Saturday of this week a new and attractive programme has been arranged for each succeeding day. In addition to ordinary programmes of vocal and instrumental music there will be several celebrated bands and orchestras. Lecturers, readers, humorists, impersonators, as well as persons possessing a vari ty of talent are booked for the week, some appearing one day and others another day. Our people can not afford to miss hearing these specialists and very gifted artists when the cost is so small. If you don't own a conveyance, take the train to .iohnston. The schedule is now very conveniently arranged. Let Edegetield be largely represent ed at each entertainment. Death of Judge Ernest Gary. The announcement of the death of Judge Ernest Gary which occur red at his home in Columbia Tues day morning caused much sadness in Edgefield. While Judge Gary had not lived here for nearly 20 years, yet he had many warm per sonal friends in Edgefield. Judge Gary was in his 56th year and was regarded as one of the ablest circuit judges in the State. He read law under his distinguish ed uncle, Gen. Martin W. Gary, and after bei nj; admitted to the bar became associated with Gen. Gary in the practice of law. Upon the 3eaih of Gen. Gary he became as sociated with Capt. N. G. Evans. He served Edgefield county in the legi>lature several terras, being a member of the House when he was elected judge in 1892. During his career of 22 years on the bench. Judge Gary has made a brilliant record. In November, 1005, Judge Gary married Miss Eliza Rhett of Co lumbia, who survives him. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. James Ka?on of Chaneston, and two brothers, Chief Justice Eugene Gary and Judge Frank B. Gary of Abbeville. The interment, will take place in Elmwood cemetery, Columbia, this af teruoon. We have a number of ice cream containers out in the Edgefield homes. As we need tbese containers we will appreciate it if those having them will notify us by telephone and we will send for them. Collett & Mitchell. REHOBOTH PICNIC. ''Rose Cottage" Writes of Son day School Picnic. Sunday School Convention at Bold Spring. Last Saturday there 'vas a Sunday school picnic at Rehoboth. The diy was beautiful and bright, and quite a number gathered in the grove to spend the day pleasantly together. We all met in the church about 11:30 o'clock and had songs and prayers and the reading of the cripture, after which speeches were made by Messrs. Cogburn, Mellichamp, Fuller, Cantelou and J. T. Littlejohn. The talks were all on the line of Sunday school. They were very helpful and inspir ing. We all went to the grove again where a dinner was spread as only the people of Rehoboth can spread, ice lemonade was served to all. The ladies missionary society met in I he church in the afternoon. While they were in session the young people had a good time talking and laugh ing. The older men talked of the crops and weather. We congratulate superintendent J. D. Hughey on the splendid arrangement for the day. Rehoboth is one of the very best communities in all the state. We fell in love with Rehoboth people about 18 years ago, and our love grows stronger and stronger for them as the years go by. Many changes have taken place in these years, many dear ones are gone, yet their sons and daughters have risen up to take their place, and the work moves on. The Sunday school convention of the Edgefield association will con vene with the Bold Spring church Wednesday and Thursday before the fourth Sunday in July. Let all the Sunday schools in the associa tion keep this in mind and see that your Sunday school is represented. Hold Spring is a great church, one of the best in the association. Their pastor is a great man, Rev. J. L'. Johnston, we have known and loved him-for near on to 30 years. So with a great church and great pas tor we ought to have a great Sun day school convention. Let's make it the best in the history. The executive committee will please meet at ll o'clock in thc office of Mr. A. S. Tompkins, next Monday July G, for the purpose of getting out the program.
