Clark's H?I News. (Written for last week.) On Wednesday night Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Sale gave a delightful little party for the young people. On account of the rain not a large crowd was able to attend. Delight ful refreshments were served of cake and ice cream. One of the most enjoyable affairs that has been here for some time was the "tacky" party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Sharpton on Thursday night. All came from about 8 to !) o'clock dressed in the most tacky garb that has ever been unearthed in Edgefield county for the past century. Games such as "Bingo," Cross questions and crook ed answers," "Going to Jerusalem" and others were played out in the hall and spacious front piazza, while in the parlor Misses Ethel Hughes and Emma Mims entertain ed on the piano with some favorite select-" ns. Refreshments of pickle and crackers, cake and different kinds of ice drinks were served in the parlor in the most becoming style. After this came the decision of the judges and we can say right here they had a hard time deciding but after dulj considering the points of each one's dress they de cided in favor of Miss Annie Laurie Walker and Mr. John J. Muid row. A bottle of Hoyt's cologne was awarded to the former and a box of sardines to the latter. A number of people from here attended divine services at Red Oak Grove Sunday. It was the begin ning of one of those good old pro tracted meetings they have over there. All the peaches are entirely gone now, a few August culloms were shipped the first part of the week from which a very fine price was realized. Crops are in very good condition but still suffering for the want of rain. Why will not the landowners stop cleaning up their lands, so we can at least get some rain in the proper seasons. Thc fear is now that all this rain which is being held back will come when cotton is open and it is time for general har vesting. A number of guests have been in town at the home of Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Adams. Quite a little house party has been in order the past week. Among the guests present were Miss II. H. Wright, uf Green ville; Misses Annie Laurie and May Walker, of North Augusta; Mrs. M. M. Bradley and her sons, Moore and Elvin, of Bradley; Mrs. H.H. Hester, of Calhoun Falls; Mrs. M. C. Faggart, of Greenwood; Mrs. J. G. Meriwether and her son, Robert, of Allendale; Misses Eva and Eftiie Adams and their brother Robert, of Colliers, and Miss C. Meriwether, of Montmorenci. All have returned to their homes except Miss Meri wether, Mrs. Meriwether and son. Miss Ethel Hughes, of Hephzi bah, is visiting at the home of Mrs. D. W. Sharpton. Mr. Sam Sales of Augusta visited his friend, Mr. John Sales, this week. Mr. V. S. Maree is visiting at the home of his wife's mother, Mrs. M. B. Rich. . Mr. James Wright, of Calhoun, is visiting relatives* Mrs. J. C. Luke, of Augusta, visited her mother, Mrs. Eugenia Middleton, this week. Dr. S. G. Meriwether, of Allen dale, is visiting his daughter, Mrs. F. G. Middleton. This was Dr. Meriwether's old home until he moved to Allendale to live with his son about 5 years ago. Mr. and Mrs. W. Rowland and family of Augusta, who are sum mering here have gone away for a pleasure trip. Mr. and Mrs. Row land will go to New York and Bos ton, an<? Miss Agnes will go to Athens, Ga. They will be gone about three weeks, then return to this place for the rest of the sum mer. Miss Ella Kate Adams has gone to Ashville on a pleasure trip. Messrs. Hugh and Harry Adams have gone to Edgefield to take in the sights of that great metropolis. Attacks Like Tigers.
