Let the inmates of the County Home be remembered Christmas by the good people of Edgefield. It was through Dr. Gwaltney's efforts that the first Christmas box was camed to the county home seven teen years ago. Let this good work continue as long as the memory of bis good deeds shall last. Mr. Edgar Hart is at home from Florida for the holidays. He is attending a prominent college in the uLand of Flowers." Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Ready spent Saturday and Sunday at Breeze Hill with Mr. and Mrs. John B. Hill. Miss Josie Sheppard is at home for the holiday season. She is teach ing in the Zoar school in Saluda county this session. Our young friend Bean Walker, accompanied by his charming bride, arrived from Commerce, Ga., 'Tuesday afternoon, where they have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Walker. Welcome, tLrice welcome! Miss Mabel Kenner is spending a few days in Edgefield as the guest of Miss Marie Key. Miss Kenner is always cordially greeted by her Edgefield friends. The S. C. C. I. suspended exer cises for a fortnight last Friday af ternoon so as td enable the students to spend the holiday season at home. Col. and Mrs. F. N. K. Bailey will spend Christmas with relatives" in Bamberg and Sumter. Mrs. Emma Dobson left this morning to spend Christmas in At lauta with her son, Mr. Charles R. Dobson. Mr. E. G. Morgan, Sr., of Faifa, was in town Monday, being accom panied by his daughters, Miss Nan nie and sweet little Kate, the baby and pet bf the family. Col. U. R. Brooks has accepted the invitation to deliver the ad dress at the celebration of Gen. Lee's birthday. Mrs. J. D. Hol stein, the president of the chapter, has also invited Miss Elberta Lu cas of Aiken to recite an appropri ate selection. The friends of Capt. N. G. Evans will regret to learn that he had his foot painfully injured while out hunting Friday afternoon. The horse he was riding stepped in a stump hole that was covered with straw. Capt. Evans was thrown off to the right, the horse falling upon his right foot and crushing the bones of the instep. It will be sever al weeks before he will be able to be out. r ' Recital at Trenton. Mrs. John T3L Tompkins' musical talent is valued and appreciated be yond the borders of Edgefield. Knowing of her special fitness as music teacher, the trustees of the Trenton school have engaged her to teach music during the present session. She goes to Trenton two days in each week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, to teach a class of four teen bright girls. The class gave a recital on Friday evening last. The program in detail is published else where in this issue. The recital was a distinct success and was thorough ly enjoyed by the lar^e audience. Attb.6 conclusion of the program oysters-were served for the benefit of the piano fund, the sum of $27 being realized. Morgan-Holmes. Miss Annabelle Morgan -and Mr. Lewis Holmes will be married to day at 12 o'clock at the home of Mr.-and Mrs. F. F. Moseley. Miss Morgan is the eldset' daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. ...Morgan, and is a young lady possessed of many loveable qualities and superior at tainments. Since her graduation from the S. C. C. I. she has been teaching in Colleton county, her services always giving entire satis faction. Miss Morgan is descended from one of the oldest and most honored families in the county. Mr. Holmes is also a graduate of the S. C. C. U and is a youngman of sterling worth. He is a member of one of the most prominent fami lies in the eastern portion of the county, his exemplary life reflecting honor upon the name he bears. The postal authorities require us to strike off all names that are habitually in ar rears. Furthermore, owing to the heavy expense of publishing such a paper as we are now issuing, we will be compelled to discontinue some free copies that we have been sending out. The Advertiser announces a spe cial rate of one dollar to ali minis ters who reside in the county. Mr. Prescott to Leave Us. After due consideration, and yielding to the wishes of his father, Mr. Wallace T. Prescott has de cided to move out to, Dr. W. E. Prescott's early in the new year to reside permanently. Besides his large farming interests, Dr. Pres cott conducts a large country store, and Mr. Prescott leaves Edgefield to assist his father in looking after his large business interests. He will still retain his half interest in the firm of May & Prescott, the status of the firm remaining the same. Edgefield will give up Mr. and Mrs. Prescott with sincere regret. Their loss will be very keenly felt. Miss Mims' Master-Piece. Within the last few days Miss Eliza Mims has completed what those who have seen it believe to be her master-piece-the finest pro duct of her creative genius. It is a life size portrait of Mrs. Amanda Watson of Anderson*, Mrs. C. E. Burts' mother. While the people of Edgefield have recognized and appreciated Miss Mims' talent all along, those whose good fortuno it is to inspect this special piece of her handiwork will be convinced that she is constantly developing the talent with which the God of nature has so richly endowed her. A-Ju.it Decision. . Several days ago a gentleman called the writer's attention to a decision that was recently rendered by Judge Aldrich to the effect that a man has a right to place poison on his own premises, even if the fowls of a neighbor are poisoned thereby. Where grain of one par ty,1 for instance, is being destroyed by the chickens of another the own er of the grain, under Judge Al drich's decision, has a right to poi son the intruding chickens. The gentleman who called our attention to the decision regarded it as being founded on justice. He stated that if there were no law bearing upon such cases one man could purchase a quarter of an acre of land, erect a fowl house and raise a thousand chickens at the ex pense of adjoining landowners. Car of Mule-footed Hogs. A novel sight for Edgefield was the car of 100 mule-footed hogs that arrived from Darlington, Ida ho, last Thursday. They had been on th? road 17 days, traveling a dis-, tance of 3,500 miles. In addition to the car of hogs, Mr. Wayne Dar lington had a car of horses and a large number of turkeys and pig eons, besides his household effects. We understand that the freight alone on the four cars from Idaho amounted to about $1,400. Mule footed hogs are an unusual sight in this part of the country. Instead of being divided or cloven, their feet are shaped like those of a horse or mule. Notice of Final Settlement and Discharge. On the 20th day of January, 1911, in the office of Judge of Pro bate, at Edgefield, South Carolina, the undersigned will make a final settlement on the estate of C. T. " Tale of a Bird. u A little four-year-old boy living in a country town disturbed and took some eggs from under a sitting hen belonging to a neighbor. Th? neighbor complained to the boy's mother, who later called her boy to her and began to reprove him when he broke in with the question, "Who told you?" The mother said: "A little bird told me. Now, tell me, how many eggs did you take?" The little boy, stammering, said: "Well, well! Why didn't the bird tell you the whole of it?"-Stray Stories. She Appreciated The Joke.
