What "Diversified Farming"
Means.
It does not mean, as many of ihe
daily newspapers of the South lxy
to make the farmers believe, the
growing of some of everything that
can be produced" in the climate. It
means tjie growing, in a systematic
rotation, of the crops that have the
most commercial value in the sec
tion. It means a rotation aimed to
improve thje productiveness of the
soil, in/ the chief money crop es
pecially, while growing increasing
crops of all the auxiliary crops. It
means getting legumes on the land
often to feed stock and increase the
humus content- in the soil, for if
you increase the Burnus, all else will
follow. It means keeping the land
hard at work all the time, growing
something to help it between the
sale c:rops. But it does not mean
merely a heterogeneous growing of
this, that and the other crop with
out any settled plan of rotation. It
does not mean growing merely
corn and oats enough to feed your
stock while you put most of the
land in cotton, but as nearly as pas
sible an equal division of the land
into three or four fields of uniform
character, and following up the ro
tation in a regular plan so as to
make the fields in corn, oats, and
peas and clover aid in the increase
of the cotton crop while improving
themselves. It does not mean "rest
ing" the land, but ?making it pro
duce more and more every year
while all the time gaining more
fertility. It means specialized farm
ing instead of single cropping

undersigned County Board of Com
missioners will hold an election for
the purpose of selecting a public
cotton weigher for the town of
Edgefield, for the ensuing term of
two years. Said election will be held
at Edgefield on the third Monday in
August 1909, being/the 16th day of
said month. All qualified electors
who market cotton at Edgefield and
who reside in Edgefield county, will
be allowed to'vote. The polls will
open at 9 o'clock a. m. and dose at
