Swearingen suit for damages, the plaintiff contending that the defendant employed a l?; borer that'was under contract with him, a verdict was rendered for the defendant. The suit brought by Mr James S. Stevens against the county for in jury'that was received- -while e.ross ingabridge resulted in a verdict of #250 for the plaintiff. .1. William Thurmond, ~Esrf., ^represented Mr. Stevens, and B. E. Nicholson, Esq.* the county. The case of Mr. E. W. Samuel against-the the town of 'Edgctield, being an action for damages, for in juries alleged to have been received through a fall from a bridge near the cotton mill, resulted in a verdict of ?50 for Mr-Samuel. J. Wm. Thurmond, Esq.', represented the plaintiff and Sheppard Bros thc town. / Silver Medal Contest at Cleora. Sunday afternoon was the appoint ed time for the silver medal contest at Cleora school.' This boniest was arranged by the Woman's Christian Temperance Union at Cleora, and the contestants and selections were as follows:-Miss Fannie L. Cheat ham, "Put yourself in his place:"' Miss Gladys Morgan, "A Temper arme St?ry"; Miss Marie Morgan, "The drinking house over the way"; Miss Janie E. Reel, "The three homes"; Miss Grace T. Williams, ''One of the fallen". The devotional exercises and pro gram were conducted by Mr" 31. H. Deal for the Woman's Christian Temperance . Union. The judges were Mr. J. T)- Hughey, of Reho both, Mrs. J: Ii. Tillman, and M rs. J. JJ. Minis, of Edgefi?ld. ' The young ladies all did weil, and especially as they bad very little time for .training. The beautiful silver medal was presented by Mr. J. D. Hughey to Miss Faunie Cheat ham. The Sunday School room was beautiful in its decoration of autumn leaves, and festooning in ' red white and blue, with the white ribbon bow arid W. C. T. IT. in white letters o ver the rostrum. -1 The class of medal contestants sang several temperance songs, and have w doubt convinced some in the audience of the great -evils-and calamities .which follow strong drink The young men of Cleora will con test for a silver riiedal on 4th Sun day in November. Mrs. J; L. Minis. Mr. Llewellyn Hamilton Weds Miss Lucy W. Briggs. A very pretty and interesting event of last Wednesday was the mar riage of Miss Lucy Winslow Briggs, of North Augusta, and Mr. Llewel lyn Holloway Hamilton, of Edge field. S. . C., the marriage , being celebrated at noon at the home of the bride in North Augusta. The entire lower floor was beau tifully decorated with palms, ferns, southern smilax and quantities of golden rod, the color scheme throughout being green and yellow The thrilling tones of wedding march, played by Mrs. W. W. Hamilton, announced the entrance of thc bride and groom, and the ceremony was impressively per form^ by Rev. Dir: C. E. Burts. Immediately after the ceremony a'delicious buffet luncheon was served'after which Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton left for their home in Ed geri eld. The bride's travelling suit was a very pretty and stylish one of pearl gray cloth, with hat and gloves to match. Miss Frances Briggs was assist ed in receiving the guests by Miss Bertha Knight and JM rs. Guy Bax ley. Miss Briggs and Miss Knight were daintily gowned in white and blue mull dresses and Mrs; Baxley wore a dress of black silk with lace. Mrs. .Hamilton is the eldest .daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Briggs and her sweet disposition and brightness have made her be loved by all who know her. Mr. Hamilton is one of the'most prosperous planters of Edgelield and to both many'friends offer the sincerest congratulations. .' Among-the out-of-town guests at the wedding were the Hon. W. W.
