We have beard a number of
farmers complaining recently of
the very great damage that is
being wrought by rats. Theee ro
dents not only seem to be more
uum^rous', but are destroying
much more oats and corn than
usual. Oats that were packed
away iu the buudle months ago
ire now but little more than piles
of straw in many barns, and cern,
evej where it ha3 not been shuck
ed, has BufFered considerable dam
age. Some persons are of the
opinion that the heavy rainfall of
the winter mouths drove the rats
from the fiedds and wood9 to the
bouses, while others say the well
filled crib3 and barns have at
tracted them and caused a more
rapid propagation. The fact is, a
number of cribs over the county,
prior to last fall, did not contain
sufficient corn to winter the rate,
to eay nothing of bogs, roules oud
horses.
