Mr. J. E. McDonald. There are said to bc $673,000 in these unpaid claims and in a lot of in* stances the liquor has been fold. New B..F. D'. Boutes in South Caro lina. Thc monthly report of the superin tendent of rural free delivery of the postotri.ee department shows that dur ing the month of June 133 new R. F. .D. routes were put into operation in South Carolina, distributed among the various congressional districts as fol lows: First district, 7; Second dis trict, 3; Third district, 13; Fourth district, ll; Fifth district, 34; Sixth district, 3; Seventh district, 20. There were in all during this month 1.211 petiti nis filed for routes in South Car olina : 549 of these were acted un ad versely, and 03 are still pending. There were no routes discontinued in the State. Killed Near Columbia. Columbia, Special.-A rear-end col lision between two freight trains on the high trestle of the Seaboard Air Line entering this city fi-om the south occurred at a few minutes before noon "Wednesday in which Conductor W. H. Snead of the first sectiou was fatallv injured, and Flagman Burgo ney, also of the first section, was ser iously but less dangerously hurt. Jones read a letter from he chief of police of Newberry stat ng that there has not been a marked mprovement in conditions in the own of Newberry since the dispen sary was voted out. When asked by Mr. Blease why the mayor of Newber ry had not answered Mr. Jones' let er of inquiry to him. Mr. Jones said ie did not know. "Because," said Mr. Blease, "the mayor knew that "our allegations of improvement are ?otljbrue." Mr. Blease said that Mr. j. C. Kills Wife and Children, ( Charleston, S. C., Special.-A spe cial to The Evening Post from Wal terboro says that J. W. Irnegan, a well-to-do white farmer of Colleton county, killed his wife and four chil dren, Draining them with an axe at their home twenty miles from Wal terboro. He then went to a neigh bor's house and told of his deed. Neighbors brought him to Walterbo ro jail, Irucgan says he killed his family, but does not know why. He is a native of Sweden. Some years ago he tried to cut his throat, and is believed to be insane. Embezzled $60,000. Spartauburg, Special.-The list of losses sustained by tlie defalcation of former Treasurer Hughes, of the Un ion Building & Loan is now complete, the meeting of thc stockholders of series Nos. 4 and 5 having been held and the figures of the expert examin ed. The amount is $00,008.17, which is considerably more than the figures cantained in the first reports. Three Ladies Injured. Winslon-Salem, Special .- While three ladies were driving from Rural Hall to Vade Meerim Springs last week the team became frightened and ran away. Miss Fannie Cozart of Durham had her left limb broken, Miss Bain of Greensboro had oue band broken or sprained, the other lady whose name is not learned sus tained painful bruises. Two sessions were held at which several excellent papers were read. At night Mr. Polk Miller addressed the asso ciation and Rev. J. 0. Atkinson de livered the annual oration. Invita tions were received to meet next year at Kenilworth Inn, Asheville, and also at the Jamestown Exposition. This matter will be left to the executive committee. The editors will leave Monday jp? New Harri, Special.-A white marj by the name of Cicero.Buck, an em ploye of thc Blades Lumber Company, suffered a serious and perhaps- fatal accident. Thc mill had shut down for the purpose of undergoing re pairs in the engine department, and had just started up. Mr. Buck at tempted to pass between the opening between the upper and lower sectipn of the belt, which was moving slowly, but in doing so he lost his balance, and being caught by thc belt was borne onward to the wheel. His dan ger was then noted by another labor er Who gave the alarm, but not be fore Buck was terribly crushed. He wa? taken io the Stewart sanitarium for treatment.
