Mr Lake says the crops are very fine in the vicinity of Beech Island, much of the cottou already is "locking"' in the middles. Mr. J. Berrien Walker left for New York on Saturday, where he will remain until the middle of September iu order to wait on the southern merchants that go to market. He was accompanied by Mrs. Walker, also by his father and mother, Mr. aud Mrs. D L. Walker. The children will spend the summer in Beaufort. Prof. L. E. Cogbum, who is au alumnus of the S. C, C. I., was a visitor in. Edgefield last week. Prof. Cogburn has taught for three consecutive years at Vina ville, Ga., and he bas given such entire satisfaction that the school has been offered bira for auotber session. COLD SPRING, The heaviest rain that has fallen here in several years fell Friday afternoon. The land was washed badly, and great damage done to the growing crops. The roads in some places are little more than gullies. Severaljemailjbridges have been washed up so they will have to be repaired before there is much travel. The Sunday school convention will convene with the Bold Spring Baptist chnrch the 18th and 19th of this month. Let each Sunday school in the county send dele gates. The Sunday school at Rehoboth appointed delogates yesterday and instructed the delegates to invite the convention to hold their next session at Rehoboth. We know of no hotter place for a convention than at Rehoboth. A series of meeting will begin at Antioch the 1st Sunday in Au gust. Bro. C. E. Burts is expected to be with our pastor during this meeting. The 2nd Sunday in August our pastor will be assisted in a meet ing at Rehoboth by Rev. W. E. Wilkins of Columbia. The 3rd Suuday in August Rev. B. J. Woodward of North Augus ta will assist in a series of meet ing at Red Hill. We trust that these meetings will prove helpful to all who may attend.
