Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Mirna gave
a delightful reception to the 27 S.
C. C. I. girls at their home on
Saturday afternoon last. It was
a very pleasant occasion both for
hosts and guests. Befoie adieus
were bidden all repaired to the
dinii g room where tempting viands
and refreshments were served. For
some days prior to the eutri of
this bevy ot beautiful girls into
his home Mr. Mims was on the sick
list but the diversion of the occas
ion and his effort to appear seven
teen instead of seventy dispelled
all aches and paius. Is there a
malady that would not be cured by
holding pleasant converse with
and feasting ones eyes' upon 27
pretty girls?
The annual meeting of the stock
holders, and directors of The
Farmers Bank was held in the
back on Tuesday. The same offi
cers and directors were re-elected.
We publish in this issue the an
nual statement of this prosperous
institution. A comparison of this
statement with that of last year
will show how marvelous and un
precedented has been the bank's
growth. Let the figures speak for
themselves: Last year the depos
its were $83,128.01, now they are
$121,916,11; la?; year the loans
aggregated $154,356,42, now they
$192, 907,88. The net profits for the
year are $8,460,36 or 14* per cent.
This phenomenal success can be
accounted for in,two words, "Good
management"-on the part of the
officers of the bank who are to be
congratulated upon eo good a
showing.

The Grand Jury visited the Jail
in a body. We are pleased to find so
lew prisoners in Jail. .We find the
Jail has been recently white-washed
and is in a neat condition. It has
been brought lo our attention by
the County Physician that the pris
oners in Jail should b^ provided
with cots to sleep on, and especially
should they be required to take a
bath and change their under-cloth
ing at least once a week as it is
dangerous to the health of the in
mates from a hygenic stand-point
and upon examination we recom
mend this suggestion of the County
Physician should be carried out, if
noeossary, at the.expense ol the
County. We als find that there
