Friday last for the mastery. Some
snow fell while the sun was shin

did not appear to be any unusual
amount of drunkenness, was con

were over $800, and over $1,800
for the four days preceding Christ

The seemingly inexhaustible
supply of holiday goods that were
so much in evidence at all of the
stores before Santa Claus made his
purchases have nearly all disap

Mr. A. A. Glover has purchased
the McCullough place from Hon.
J. 0- Sheppard and will occupy it
as soon as the bouse has been re
paired. Mr. E. C. Winn, the new
ly olested dispenser, will occupy
the house from which Mr. Glover
moves.

All of the Edgefield young peo
ple who were away at school came
home to speud the holidays except
our young friend Charlton Lynch.
His manly form and pleasant couu
tenance has been greatly missed.
When he does come in the early
summer he will bring with him his
diploma as a full graduate in phar
macy and will remain with us al
ways.
Tba Christmas dance given by
the cotillion club in the opora
h"use on Thursday night last war
pronounced a great success by all
who attended. More than half a
hundred couples took part in lim
dance and german". Many young
people who never previously visited
Edgefield were in intendance.
Sufficient funds were realized from
this occasion to give a free dance
in the opera house on Monday cf

A Surprise Marriage.
On Christmas morning (wo

in the hilly bonds of wedlock at the
home of Mr. D. R. Strother, of
Johnston. Ihe charming bride
was Miss Connie Huff who made
many friends during her stay in
Edgefield ' with her cousin, Mrs.
Lizzie H. Folk. Th? gioom was
Mr. Shelton Pery, a verry success
fu'dyoung business mau of Bates
burg, who also has many friends in
our town. They will mase Bates
burg their future home.
Passed Over the River.
Mrs. Faunie Lanham Miller,,
wife of the late Edward Miller,
died of heart trouble, in her 52nd
year, on Saturday last at her home
in the Colliers sectiou. She had
been a sufferer for several years
and the end came l.ol unexpected
ly, though suddenly. For a num
ber of years she was a mem
ber of Republican church and she
knew in whom she trusted for life
eternal.
Mrs. Miller is survived by niue
children. 1 sister and 4 brothers
who with mauy frisuds and neigh
bors mouru her death. Her re
mains were laid to rest at Repub
lican beside the grave of her hus
band ou Suuday afternoon. THE

dren of Edgefield, a number
of them not more than twelve
years old, are in the habit of
meeting from place to place,
to enjoy a dance of their own,
and have become so fascinat
ed thereby that no entertain
ment, however attractive,
gives them satisfaction unless
the dance feature is attached.
As the children and young
people of a community should
be thc care of .ill its citizens,
it is time that the sober mind

beginning to open their eyes
