and her friend. Miss Leitia Fairy
of St. Georges, S. C. are guests of
Mrs. B. B. Jones. These accom
plished young ladies are recent
graduates of Cedar Springs and

Mr. Walter E. Holstou has re
signed as assistant post roaster to
take effect on September 1st. Mr.
Holston has discharged his duties
in a very faithful and efficient
manner and he retires of his own
volition to accept a position with
the Southern Cotton Oil company
Mr. C. A. Brimson has accepted
the position of assistant post

Rev. L. B. White, assisted by
Rev. A. J. Reamy, is conducting a
protracted meeting at Antioch this
week. On Sunday next he will
begin a meeetiug at Stevens Creek
in which he will also be aided by
Rev. Mr. Reamey. Mr. White and
his several congregations are to be
congratulated upon having with
them in their meetings this zealous
and consecrated servanT of the
Master.
Dr. Ernest C. Smith is away on
a vacation with the home-folks at
Williston. For the convenience of
his patrons he has engaged Miss
Kate Samuels to keep his office
open during his absence. She

COUNTY CAMPAIGN.
JfjThe first of the series of
county campaign meetings
was held at Johnston yester
day. All candidates had tok
file their pledges and pay their
assessments by noon of yester
day, so there is no longer any
doubt as to who will be in the
several races. The chief
speakers at these meetings
will be candidates for con
gress,house of representatives
and county superintendent of
education Those who aspire
to a seat in congress should
discuss national problems;
those who aspire to legislative
honors 'should discuss fully
the good roads question, child
labor in cotton mills,bi-ennial
sessions of the legislature, the
ways and means of improving
the finances of our county
with the view of wiping out
all past indebtedness and put
ting the county on a cash ba
sis. Our people desire to know
how the aspirants stand on
these and several other ques
tions. The candidates for
the office of county superin
tendent of education should
let the people hear from them
on the needs,also the improve
ments that should be made.in
our schools, chiefly, public
schools.
Crops are now made and
our people should attend the
county campaign meetings.

COURT PROCEEDINGS,
Court convened on Mon

er court officials were prompt

ter the judge delivered the
usual charge to the grand
jury the solicitor handed out
a number of indictments, true
bills being found in every
case.

on Monday, that of the State

in the acquital of the defend

attend the county campaign
