She is a full graduate in stenography and typewriting. Miss Ella Parts, daughter of Hon W. R. Parks, Parksville, aud sister of our townsman, Mr. Jasper Parks, is numbered among the A. B. graduates of Winthrop college this year. The Rev. Mr. Wallace will preach in our Presbyterian church ou Sunday morning .next. Being the fifth Sunday thare will be no other service in town and our peo ple should attend en masse. Mrs. Carey Lamar, nee Loll ie Addison, of Augusta, is visiting Mrs. James H. Tillman. With her came John Cary Lamar, Jr., who pays his first visit to the home of his maternal aucestry. The following gentlemen, 0. Sheppard,Sr.,B. E. Nicholsou and M. P. Wells, of the Masonic fra ternity, attended an importaut meeting of the Parksville lodge on Saturday night. The town authorities have def initely decided to have beautiful and substantial iron fences erected around the public well and the monument. This will meet the approval of the entire community. Mrs. J. H. P. Roper, accompan ied by several of the children, left on Monday to spend a fortnight in Georgia.visiting her sisters. Those of the family who remain at home will think the days are very long, dark and dreary during Mrs. Ro per's absence. . . Just before going to press we loam of the death of Mrs. Lucy Millet- Wise, daughter of Mrs. Ma ry Miller, who resided at Barnwell. Mrs. Wise's remai?B were interred at Horn's creek church Tuesday afternoon. The young men say Jimmie Byrd prefers the law (Law) of Georgia to that of the Palmetto state. We agree with you, Jimmie, the (Law) of Georgia is beautiful, inspiiiug obedience while the law of our state ie stern anc. .elentless. A new bell (not belie, boyf ) can be heard in Edgefield now. The services at the Mill chapel are an nounced by a very sweet toned bell that has reoently been puroha?ed. It can be distinctly heard for a great distanoe. Mr. F. R. Spencer, of Yorkville, S. O.jhas been engaged by the Mill authorities to fill the place made vacant by the resignation of Mr. Sossaman. Mr. Spencer has already become very popular with the operatives. During the first, week in July Mr Spencer will bring his family to Edgefield. These good people will receive a cordial welcome into our commu nity. Estate Notice. Mr. Marion Burnett and Miss Fan nie Belle Schenk will be united in the bonds of wedlock at the home of the bride's parents. The groom is the youngest sou of Mr. J. P. Burnett, who former ly resided at Greenwood. The bride is the third daughter of Mr. J. N. Schank and has been a stu dent of the S.C.C.I. for several ses sions. The ceremony will be performed by the Rev.G. W. Davis, pastor of the Methodist church. May their lot be one of perpetual bliss. A happy homo is that of Mrs. Elizabeth Nicholson. Following the recent graduation of her young est sou, William,^ from the South Carolina .college, with honors, is that of her youngest daugbter,Sal lie Mai, who has just comp'eted the full course at Winthtop, re ceiving au A. B. diploma. These two young people are equipped in mind and heart for any and all of the Uui.ies and responsibilities of life. Mrs. C. J. Ashley and fam ily will return to day from Ellenton, They will be accom panied by Miss Howell, a niece of Mrs Ashley and Mrs. Merriman. Converse college has given 5 scholarships, valued at $100 each, to the South Carolina Federation of women's clubs. Au examination will be held in Edgefield on July lltb. Those who wish to compete for one of these scholarship would do well to correspond with Mrs. J. B. Haltiwanger with reference to details of the examination. On Friday moruing last Mrs. Hattie Gardner wife of Mr. An drew Gardner, died after a linger ing illueds at her home in the An tioch section.For fitter n years Mrs Gardner has been almost an inva lid but has borne her trials and bufferings with a fortitude and patience that were beautiful, yea,! heavenly. A devoted wife, fond| mother and zealous Christian wo man baB gone to dwell forever in the mansions in the sky which abode is promised to those who live and die in the Lord. Mrs. Gardner is survived by a devoted husband, five affectionate children and several brothers and sisters, all of wnora are bowed in grief over their irreparable lose. All that was mortal of Mrs. Gar dner was laid to rest at Antioch, of which church fhe was a member 22 years, Friday afternoon after the fuueral which was preached by ber pastor, Rev.L.B.White.
