' gratified, on Sunday morning last
^to welcome again Dr Gwaltney,
wh-> for two Sundays previous had
been absent from his pulpit on ac
count of sickness.
In the beginning of his sermon
Dr Gwaltney gave a short re6ume
of his life since first coming to
Edgefield, forty-three years ago,
saying that on Sunday morning
he bad just passed the thef e-score
years ? nd ten. In 1858 he first
came tb Edgefield. spending ten
years as pastor of the village Bap
tist church, remaining away twen
ty-four years, and returning to
Edgefield in 1893. He has now
been arning us and one of us for
nine more years, and it is the
prayer and desire of everybody in
Edg- field that he may in th* wis
dom of Providence, be allowed to
announce from the same pulpit

Dr Gwaltney has endeared him
self by his sympathetic nature and
Christ-like character to all of Edg
field His influence, by precept
and example, has bten the. noblest
and best that any mortal could
have exerted. God, in His provi
lence, brought him into our midst
because he was just the influence
which Edgefield needed for ber
" b- terrien tan i highest good.
May. his latter years be filled
Wilh none of tho sorrow which is
prophesied for those who pass be
