The Republican vote in Vermont has fallen off about 10 per cent as compared with the corresponding election in 1896. while the Demo cratic vote has increased about 16 per cent. Indi ana has 15 electoral votes. Io 1896 the Republican vote there was 323.754, and the Democratic 305.573. If the Republicans lose 10 per cent and the Democrats gain 16 per cent the Republican vote in Iud?anr. this year will be 291,379 and the Democratic 354,573 leaving a Democratic plurality of 63,083. A similar process would give the Democrats Delaware by 447, WeBt Virginia by 13,822. Kentucky by 56,398, Ohio by 80,501, and North Dakota by 282. Manchester, September 14.-The general opinion is that the spinners will stop universally during the first fortnight in October. Some producers are having resource ic Egyptian and Peruvian cotton to complete their contracts. Mr Mawdesley, .leader of the operatives' union, is still dis inclined to take a gloomy view ol the situation. He thinks that the demand for cotton goods through out the world is good and that the crisis has reached its height. St Louis, September 14.-A special to the Post-Dispatch from Memphis, Tenn, says a masked mob of between sixty and one hundred men broke into jail at Tunica, Miss, early to-day and took out three negroes, whom they struug up to a tree within one hundred yards of the jail. Not a shot was fired. The dead negroes are Frank Cheshire, a prosperous farmer at Oak Lauding, six months ago ; David Moore, who shot Dan Bo3ewell fen days ago, and William Brown, who with confederates shot and cut to death a young white man at State Levee last month.
